NQDCs can be a valuable savings vehicle for highly compensated workers who’ve exhausted their other savings options, but they're not risk-free. They’re not protected by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) like 401(k)s and 403(b)s are. If the company holding an employee’s NQDC declared bankruptcy or was sued, the employee’s assets would not be protected from the company’s creditors.
儿子昨天打电话问我,他明年的bonus的现金部分可以放一部分在deferred compensation plan里面,这样明年的收入就降低一些,但是我说什么时候拿出来呢?你以后收入正常情况是越来越高,marginal Tax rate也是越来越高,你拿出来的时候岂不是也越高吗?如果是你离开公司,一种是被layoff,那么你会拿一个package,如果那个时候这些deferred钱也必须当时(比如30天之内)转走,那么你当年的收入说不定也是非常高,或者是你跳槽去其他公司,那么肯定是收入高才跳槽去的吧?那么还是收入高啊。
除非是这些钱可以分几年比如5年,10年拿出来,那么如果当中有可能是收入低的阶段,才是合算的,不然真的不合算啊。
我们都没有这个经验,不知道坛子里谁有经验能给说说?我的估算对吗?

如果是deferred stock bonus,还能指望以后可能升值。deferred cash对公司有益,对个人没好处,早拿出来投资的产生收益比省点税强。有的公司允许bonus可以contribute to 401k, 那就先把当年的401k放满,因为那部分不交税,剩下的不急用的去投资。
里面也和401K类似的选几个基金,有增长的。关键是没发现多少税务好处啊
区别是开始不交税能产生更多的收益,如果股市给力的话。
