自己娃的EC,哪些成就有多大影响,家长一般心里有数吧?其他娃的EC成就有多高,这个自然没必要了解。想了解的也就是个八卦的目的而已。
所以要不想参与,当然可以不参与。要想参与,只要了解自己娃的具体情况就够了,这些额外的东西帮助不大。

哪一项里面的?第几行?
能参加这些national竞赛的,比如National History Day都是要经过regiaon和state淘汰的。
如果得奖才算,是前几名呢?是semi finalist, 还是finalist, 还是top 3?
具体哪里过时了?我觉得大部分还是靠谱的。

这个表其实挺准的。层次非常分明,比方以TOC 举例来说 National Qualifier ( 参赛资格)是6;参加全国比赛后过了淘汰轮 就是7;在全国比赛中拿到前几名就是9. 9的话在申请大学中绝对有力,而7或8的话也是有一定分量的 (8实际上分量很重了)。
另外对很多大家耳熟能详的奖项也做了有效的界定:比方说AIME 的qualifer 只给了5,NMF只给了4 .... 等等
BROWN 已经是牛校了呀。
USACO Platinum 在这个表中是7,确实属于可上可下的奖项。
science fair,DECA等等都可以拼爹。。。
他哥大肯定是录的,选择布朗有原因。
应该各个族裔分别搞一张,建模型都需要segment
DECA怎么拼爹?
两个学校课程设置正好是反着的,一个core curriculum 一个open curriculum
除非是(1)顶私和那些有名的藤校feeder school,或者(2)有大领导力,在藤校喜欢的高中里是学校老师极力推荐的红人。

在自己父母实验室或者公司做出来成就都没用。所以这大佬们都是资源互换,互相换孩子带。
这个表少说有5年了,5年时间录取情况变化已经非常大了,当亚裔在努力搞大奖的时候,其他族裔基本放弃,你可以看看美国各种学术代表队基本都是亚裔去打。不是说这些奖项含金量下去了,除了USACO,现在应该都是越来越难了,而是说录取的weight 降低了。 我们学校去年有mopper 申请数学系被MIT据了,孩子本身GPA也不低的,而且我们是feeder,以前这种情况都是躺进。
这些个人大奖都是很花时间的,不是每个孩子都是balance GPA和大奖,而且5年后情况不知道会变成啥样,各位孩子还小的,看看就行了。最重要的是培养孩子的兴趣。
P.S.这表最开始应该是在文学城的论坛,有心的家长可以去问现在的情况。

Meta hacker cup,我家最小的男孩11年级进到round 2,年龄限制不能继续。他说跟USACO gold难度差不多。他是今年入大学的。供参考。
哈哈哈,那当然,我娃才4岁,我已经想好让他将来去哪个我在美国当教授的亲友那混文章了。高中时再花钱给他买个非洲volunteer的经历和一帮黑孩子照个相,完美~

Google Code Jam Qualifier 是 6 (6.5), Google Code Jam Round 2, 3 Qualifier 是 8. Standley 那个CASE 是Google Code Jam semifinal, 没说清是上面那个。 既然是semifinal, 应该是上面的8,那样的话确实亏大了。
这个 Mopper 后来去了别的 T5了吗?现在Mopper都不能进MIT 了,太夸张了

花滑的性价比好像是有点差,Karen Chen 有全国冠军的,也只去了Cornell

有两个不是olympian的figure skaters去的是harvard, 一个是Christina Gao, 另一个是Gabbie Izzo。Sarah Hughes去的是Yale, Emily Hughes好像去的是Harvard。虽然T5或HMS的prestige是很多人看重的,我觉得性价比并不是只能进了T5才会被体现。不过我觉得像花滑这类的体育娃全家长期投入都很大,只看升学的话大部分不值得,孩子没有爱好毅力和天赋都是坚持不下去的。
10分里的1-3是被人加进去搞笑的吧。
那个michigan练花滑的女孩不是本来进了斯坦福,结果因为和老爹吵架被抓最后去了cc
这个我一直不知道是不是真的,除了中文媒体其它地方都没有提到过。这孩子当年11年级应该还没有开始申请大学,花滑也不是NCAA的运动项目,其他人包括Nathan Vincent Karen都是应届申请的, 我觉得以她的花滑成绩不太可能提前一年被Stanford录取。

申请大学时各种荣誉称号
但事实上,这些信息实际上主要对旁观者有用。真的和孩子一起一步一步走到那个地步的人,基本上心里都有数了。特别是对孩子主打的EC项目,家长还能真不知道自己孩子这一领域各种成就大概是什么程度么?比如,孩子拼音乐的,谁会真的不知道all nation大概是什么层次?all state是个什么层次?(实际上这表里没有列出更高的,比如Young Artist。。。至于那些专业自己的大奖,就更不用说了)
连这些都不知道的家长,也不用看这种表了。就算看,也就是为了自个儿爽一把或者能有个谈资而已。
