Now, when you go look for a doctor, you would look at where he went to school... But when you go to an interview at Facebook, really really nobody cares. The first round is always gonna be coding and see if it passes all the test cases... Nobody cares where you went to school. The money you spend at these "good" schools definitely NOT worth it buzhidao2022 发表于 2022-01-31 01:43
Disagreed! I think her success is the results of decent academic performance, top or very good private school, and she is a girl, plus the race card.
When you are from a good private (high) school, you already receive more attention or "benefit of doubt" in the college application process. Plus CalcTech and MIT prefer girls to boys, plus the proper use of the race card. That's how I see it.

看看MIT 自己2017年的研究数据: https://news.mit.edu/2017/mapping-gender-diversity-at-mit-1025 The big reveal is heartening: Over the past 20 years, MIT’s female undergraduate population has risen to nearly 50 percent of total enrollment and such growth has been sustained across almost every department and school.

如果你看specific year, number of men applicants vs number of men (accepted) vs number of men (enrolled), then you will see a different picture. For instance, CalTech 2020, male applicants = 6011, admitted 5%, enrolled = 2% of admitted. On the other hand, there are 2356 female applicants, 11% admitted ..... The details can be found here: https://www.collegeatlas.org/technology-institute-california.html#admissions-and-enrollment
To the contrary, I just want to share what I observe, not to discount what she said. The more information can be shared here, the more people can learn from it.
From my own experience, I think girls are having advantages over boys in those top schools. And I think private schools are given more weight than public school too. Mine graduated from public school, a very competitive public high school with over 70% asians, national rank is between 700-850. Her SAT is close to 1500. She spent average 4 hours a day doing homework and spent the rest of time doing sport. 7 days a week for many years. Now she is studying in a top private school and playing sport for the school. Most of her friends came from private schools. She was admitted when she was 11th grade. As an Asian, it would be very very hard to get into her school if there is no EC. That''''s why I said private school + girl + right colleges would make a difference. Edit: I am not sure how much her high school recommendation helps. The school reviewed her transcript. The coach endorsed her. That was it. We didn''''t meet AO, yes, there was an "interview" with an alumni. I suspect it was more a formality. She picked the school and we hardly invovled anything (except paying for the tranining for many years, lol).

Coding is a trade, just like plumbing! Do you think it's ridiculous to go to college to earn a plumbing degree? If colleges started offering a plumbing degree, do you think it makes a difference on the quality of your plumber depending on where he went to college? 160k??? Let's say you use that $160K and put in SPY. Let's assume 5% annual increase. Your kid gonna have a big chuck of retirement set. Now let's say you put $160K in bitcoin.. your kid can have a harem of young muscular boy harem when she reaches the age of 50... The most important thing for a woman is to be beautiful.
MIT: men = 5%, women = 11.5% acceptance rate What I tried to say is: if you are a boy, your chance is about 5%. Girl is getting 11.5% chance to be admitted.

Mark

Disagreed!

Gender Male50%Female47%Another gender identity2%

Caltech https://finance.caltech.edu/documents/18064/cds_2021.pdf

maybe fewer than the top 10%. You need to set aside a few for legacy and recruits.
