Musk.

caltech full ride是need-based的吗?

All scholarships and grants at Caltech are need-based, as the Institute does not have a merit aid program. Undergraduate students who fill out a financial aid application will be automatically considered for scholarships and grants from Caltech and the federal government.

She said she talked about my less academic struggles throughout hs (financial, personal, etc) and she's written a lot of these letters for students who consistently end up at T20s so I trust that it was good. I was really awkward in the beginning lol so it's nice to know that wasn't a dealbreaker. Essays Wrote my Caltech essays first, in a couple days. I didn't like them much tbh but at the time Caltech was very low priority; I just tried to use straightforward language and talk about things that were important to me. I would give them a strong 6/10 lol. Thank you Caltech for accepting me anyway. My MIT essays must have taken a month, but they were my favorite essays of any that I wrote. I feel like if someone asked me to hand them the most honest portrayal of myself, I would hand them my MIT essays lol. The hardest part was probably just deciding on the topics; after that it was pretty smooth sailing. And I found, surprisingly, that I did learn things about myself along the way, as they say you should. I don't want to hazard a guess as to how much the admissions committee liked my essays, but when I submitted them I felt like if they rejected me, I would be content with knowing they entirely knew who they were rejecting. So, to me, they were 10/10. Could've been 1/10 to the adcoms though lol My personal statement was about moving a lot as a child and never really having a sense of "home" but then settling down in one place (the neighborhood I live in now) and how those different perspectives affect the work I want to do in the future—that I want to benefit people across the globe but also strongly value having a tight-knit community to complete my work with. Decisions (indicate ED/EA/REA/SCEA/RD) Acceptances: Caltech MIT Waitlists: TBA Rejections: TBA Additional Information: I also applied to Stanford, Emory, UCSD, UCSB, UCLA, and UCB. Will update as those roll in :) Also I was pretty nervous about not having a ton of ECs or APs when I submitted my apps - I've never done a sport and I don't have an exorbitant number of service hours, my friends at other schools would be taking 8 APs a year instead of 8 APs over four years, and all my ECs are pretty narrowly focused on science. So I guess don't worry if you don't have 20 different ECs / didn't have any impressive ECs outside of what you focused on. It's different for different people ofc but I'm glad now that I just did the few activities I really enjoyed in hs instead of tacking on things that I wasn't interested in, but everyone else seemed to have

My science competition coach - 9/10, said I was one of the top 5 he'd taught in his career (he's been teaching for 30+ years), emphasized the difficulty of a lot of the stuff I'd done throughout high school and essentially gave a play-by-play of all my achievements but in a pretty cool way My AP English Language teacher - 7/10, I really like him and I liked the rec but it was nothing spectacular, pretty short (<1 page) and focused on my personal and academic contributions to the class + how I handled academics along with tutoring people outside of school My college counselor - 8/10; to be clear, she's the college counselor working with a free college prep program that helps low-income kids in my area with applying to college. She said she talked about my less academic struggles throughout hs (financial, personal, etc) and she's written a lot of these letters for students who consistently end up at T20s so I trust that it was good. My research mentor at SSP - 6-9/10; I'm not going to guess as to what they wrote in my letter but SSP was an amazing experience and I like to think that I tried to contribute a lot to it as well, so hopefully they agreed! Interviews Caltech: no interview MIT: interview was just mediocre. I thought my interviewer was super cool and interesting, but we didn't "click" or anything, and we didn't delve into anything overly personal. We just talked about regular interview topics, it was pretty chill and lasted around the expected amount of time.

Mark!
