The widow of “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll” writer Alan Merrill has written a harrowing account of his final hours before his death from coronavirus. Merrill, who co-wrote and sang the original version of the hit song, died Sunday at age 69 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, which is so overrun with COVID-19 patients that they are being transferred to a field hospital of tents in Central Park. Merrill’s wife, Joanna Lisanti, took to Facebook to share the devastating details of the events leading up to his death, revealing how doctors are struggling with the lack of resources under the pressure of the growing pandemic. Lisanti said Merrill began to feel ill two weeks ago, but, “Alan being Alan, he told me I was getting hysterical for no reason,” Lisanti wrote, noting that hospitals would only test and admit people with severe symptoms. “There was nothing I could do for Alan except watch him get worse. When he finally couldn’t breathe, was so cold he needed piles of blankets on top of him, and couldn’t sleep, I called an ambulance.” She was not allowed to accompany him to the ER, where he waited 10 hours for a test, which was positive for COVID-19, and she was told they were moving him to the ICU. Then, “A doctor called me and told me they were actually NOT moving him since his body was shutting down because his lungs were too destroyed to work. I asked if he had to die alone, and the doctor said I could come say goodbye. “When I got to the hospital I had to argue with 3 different security guards to let me go to the ER. I stood my ground and they went back to fetch a nurse who let me in. This was around 11 p.m. “The doctor who called me came to meet me and apologized and said that his numbers were now better and he was going to be transferred to the ICU where he could get the care he needed. He was on a respirator and was sedated, so he was not in pain, or at least aware of the pain. “My husband should have been moved to the place where the experts who were there on the front lines could help him. Every 15 minutes I would ask when he was going to be transferred and they would say in the next few minutes, but that never happened. At around 2:30 am, they were finally ready to transfer him upstairs, and I left, exhausted, not willing to battle another group of security guards in ICU. SEE ALSO 'I Love Rock and Roll' co-writer dies of coronavirus “I walked three blocks towards home and the doctor called me to say he was gone, his heart and lungs just stopped beating from all the pressure they were under.” Lisanti continued, “He was only allowed in the hospital until he was most certainly dying, and then he languished in ER for 14 hours while they tested him for corona, which he obviously had, and struggled to find someone to take him upstairs to ICU. “Maybe if he was there, he would have had a fighting chance at least for those 15 hours, but of course we will never know. And now I have to grieve alone in quarantine.” She added, “Please know that I write this not for sympathy, but to let you know the reality of this disease and our country’s lack of preparation for it.“ Merrill’s daughter Laura confirmed her stepmother’s account and told The Post about his final hours, “We asked if we could come and say goodbye so he didn’t have to die alone, they refused, but my stepmom was persistent and they finally allowed us to you see him for two minutes in the ER. “It was really hard to get into the hospital, the security guards stopped me, I was hysterical and crying, and finally they let me in. “I was in protective gear, and I gave him my love. He was very peaceful and sedated on a ventilator, which was shocking to see. He had been texting me that morning. I was hugging and kissing him, I didn’t care if I was exposed. “When I left the hospital It was a very long and lonely walk home, there was nobody in the streets. By the time I got home he was gone. “They tried to move him to the ICU and in that move he died, his lungs were just too destroyed.” Laura, a photographer, added, “The hardest part is that we can’t be together to mourn this as a family, we can’t have a funeral. I have to self-quarantine, my step-mother has to self-quarantine, we have to grieve alone. “This happened so quickly, our heads are still spinning. His last gig was on March 13, he was downtown on stage doing his thing. He was still doing his thing, he was 69 acting like he’s 40 years old. I just shot his album cover, because he had a new album coming out. “It is really shocking how this virus is taking people. Yet I still see people taking it lightly, joking about it on social media, people are getting antsy stuck in their homes, and are going outside. This isn’t a joke, you have to stay inside. “I am staying inside self quarantining, and it is lonely. This virus is brutal, not only are people dying but families are being destroyed because they can’t grieve properly, they can’t grieve together.”
This first preliminary description of outcomes among patients with COVID-19 in the United States indicates that fatality was highest in persons aged ≥85, ranging from 10% to 27%, followed by 3% to 11% among persons aged 65–84 years, 1% to 3% among persons aged 55-64 years, <1% among persons aged 20–54 years, and no fatalities among persons aged ≤19 years. link:https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6912e2.htm Lz说的,我在cnn上找了一大圈儿,并没有看见。。。

Do you live under the stone or what?
Do you not watch the news?
can't agree more

“no fatalities among persons aged ≤19 years.”
