Can't agree more. My supervisor was the controller with his previous employer, but now, he's just one of the thousands managers in a Fortune 100 company. He is probably making same amount of money as he did before, if not higher. Apparently, LZ mm is very proud of what she's doing and what she's achieved. I don't think there is anything about it. She has every reason to be proud of herself. However, considering many Huaren MMs are still at school and knowing little about corporate world, throwing out a big title like Director of HR without defining it, does seem to me a little misleading.
RE这个,LZMM的确很让人佩服,自信自强不服输的性格很让人羡慕啊,我一直相信性格决定命运,YOU DESERVE WHAT YOU HAVE. 不过话说回来,FORTUNE 500的公司和100人一下的小公司HR DIRECTOR的工作属性是完全不一样的,我待过3个世界前100强的公司和一个150人的小公司,前者的HR DIRECTOR都是只管STRATEGY PLANNING的,其他BENEFIT,TRAINGING, RECRUITING, COMPENSATION都有相关的MANAGER管。后者有3个HR,一个经理,一个助理和一个管BENEFIT的,我的理解是小公司的HR DIRECTOR面对的人群相对单一,员工素质也比较整齐,大公司就不一样,有工人有PHD,这才是对HR DIRECTOR真正的考验。所以希望楼主能多给出些客观的数据来映衬你的TITLE,我赞同DharmaMM, 这会是对没工作过或刚工作的MM的一种误导。
mm写得好啊。我也算是个大公司里的director of finance。可是,和mm比,我是个老大妈了。只不过看了mm的帖子,让我也想起了当年自己满腹豪情,干劲冲天的样子。现在,经过这么多年的洗礼,我也慢慢开始混日子了。哈哈。。。不过,刚刚要换工作,去新公司上班时,真还要向mm学习,好好从头做起啊。
现在呢?毫不夸张地说,我的英语不管是口语、听力、阅读还是写作,都和美国人不相上下了,语法却比很多美国人都要好(说句题外话,不知大家发现没有,好多美国人实际上speak terrible English, 只是习惯成自然,表达清楚了而已。这点如果大家有兴趣的话我可以举例子,这里就不多说了)。几乎所有刚认识我的美国人都说:"What do you mean you have only been here for four years?! You are kidding! You don't have any accent at all!" 每次都让我小小地、阴暗地满足一下自己的虚荣心。。。 很佩服搂住,不过像搂住这么牛的人都要这么熬日子才能过期末,不知道那些fail乐的同学怎么过的。哈哈
FAINT。LZ拿到这个工作OFFER的很重要一点是英语好。LZ对如何提高英语语焉不详。好多跟贴的都问她如何提高英语。你让她怎么说?让你们为了找 工作,之前去 DATE男白人女白人之类的练好英语先?楼主的帖子花了不少时间,也有一些用处。就像.....听俞敏洪讲课。听着有意思,很沸腾,很滚锅,很洛杉矶那旮 瘩重庆毛血旺,在校没毕业的rookie不热血澎湃个八九阵子都对不起自己的听课证(和200魅力值)。以为只要你就学期间发悬梁,锥刺骨的玩命儿,毕业 了找不到Director of HR你都不好意思上华人。其实激动完了呢?下了网该干什么就干什么吧,你如妹喊你回家吃饭啦。因为大部分人(尤其学HR的)没人家那个条件。英语不好到能 随便DATE next ex spouse,3个人的公司也不会雇你去做他们的Director of HR的,就算你想直接Report给三个人中title最高的看门大爷都没门儿。哪怕你把自己大腿小腿外加26个大脚趾头都戳成了丝瓜瓤子,不DATE个 五六个白毛,还是,,,趁早攒奖学金截肢吧。所以说,最重要一点我替楼主说了吧,先外whatever去练好英语。当然,你的主流社会中的黑白朋友是不能 理解你的酸甜苦辣的。不过你可以来这里告诉别人你花了多么多么大的功夫提高英语技巧,赚得在自己的主流社会里赚不到的崇拜之情。等到你DATE得每分钟都 用英语自然而然地思考一切大中小吃喝拉撒问题。等说中文都打奔儿了,老妈跟你说中文你都得先在脑子里翻成英文找好英文对 白再翻成中文mumbo jumbo出来,你就可以去找工作了。还一找一个准儿,直接Report给CEO他老婆的soul mate都说不定。

谢谢大家的夸奖!我接着写。 说一下我第一次真正的面试即前后的事件。。。 那是在第二学期刚开始的时候,我们学校有个career fair,和我同住的老生向我借套装,我说我也想去啊。她跟我说:”你还是新生呢,有人招新生的,学历还没完成,经验又不够,你去没有用的,还是把套装借给我吧。”(注:她和我是一个专业,比我早来一年,当时就快要毕业了。)我当时听了这话心里虽然咯噔咯噔的,可还是把套装借给了她。第二天左思右想,还是觉得不甘心,就翻出来一件衬衣和一条还算比较正式的裤子,打了几份简历,上完课还是去了career fair。

为什么大家一定要挖掘出LZ的权利大小 in terms of the size of the HR department?这不是重点吧.
需要学的是一些精神和方法, 至于最后的结果实在被太多随机的因素所左右.

其实我在国内的时候觉得自己的英语很好,不仅是自我感觉好啊,所有教过我的英语老师都认为我是班上的尖子。就这样我雄赳赳地来到了美国,然后才发现自己的英语书面还可以 (开学第一天所有国际学生都必须参加英语考试,考语法、阅读和听力。90%+的人都fail了,得上至少一个学期的英语课,我却通过了。),可口语那叫什么水平啊!念的是硕士,大家也知道商科研究生的强度,可是我刚开始的2-3个月吧,上课顶多能听懂教授讲的60%左右,我郁闷啊。。。上课还必须得发言,还得参加小组讨论,做presentation,不然期末就甭想通过了,那个时候的日子很难熬,可是也成了我促进自己英语进步的动力,因为没有退路嘛,自己又天生是很好强的性格。
