now we are having a good conversation, this is how i interpreted it... he was not trying to say anything about the verdict of the trial... as he said, this is how the system works... what he was trying to explain was the lens through which black people viewed the trial... this was, for many people, the story of a boy who was profiled on account of his skin color (lets face it, racial profiling does exist, i do, you do, everybody does), creating a situation that had a tragic resolution...
he was not discussing the outcome of the trial, but the reasons why it touched a nerve with so many people, the social and psychological implications of the incident and the outcome, and how they fit into a powerful (and largely accurate) historical narrative... at the end, he expresses hope that we're unravelling that narrative and provides suggestions for how we can continue doing so...

he is president of the united states NOT the president of african americans..he needs to respect ruling system even though he is the president. BTW, his standing of speech is not well-grounded..so many ppl, black or white, got into the trouble. Can we reconsider our judicial system every single time? Bottom line is you need to act like a president not a black racist!

that's very fair, i do think it's unwise to relate TM to himself simply because they are both black...
but again, i wish people wouldn't focus on one line out of an entire speech that made many points, and interpret it in a way that allows you to criticize him as an individual... people are free to agree/disagree with what he's saying... but i think they have to acknowledge the fact that he made the decision to speak about this whole issue and give his opinion on the state of race relations in the US is important and says something about the state of our country socially......

He is as white as Zimmerman. Most people here first and foremost don't think that he should comment on the legal issue and escalate to racial issue; and what he said was even more conflict provoking. You should also think why you are the only one defending him here. Are you truly as fair as you think, or are you simply living in your good life bubble and think that supporting 08 under these circumstances is cool? How about take a leisurely stroll within the 8 mile area in Detroit? Will you have fear?

you know it's funny to me that people talk all of the time about how black leaders need to stand up and address the real problems in their communities.... there is constant griping and bellyaching that al sharpton and jesse jackson are simply race-baiters who stir up passions in really decisive ways... now we have here, the black man with the most influence over the african-american community since MLK, speaking on race in a way that is constructive and that encourages all americans to unify instead of being divisive, and people lose their $hit
instead of talking about how wrong obama is for speaking on this hugely controversial case that is all over our media, maybe people should actually listen to what he's saying and think about it... he's just given the best explanation yet for the anger that the black community is currently feeling.

Mr. Obama said it would be hard to find an African-American man in America who hasn't been followed around a department store by security or heard car doors locking as they came down the street. He included himself among the people who have had those experiences.
Suggestion to the African-American males referred to in Mr. Obama's speech: Quit the disproportionate number of robberies and murders to citizens of all colors and maybe, just maybe, you would not hear locking doors.

sorry, people have different political opinions, doesn't mean one is smarter than the other, it's just a fact......
if you were the president, you are asked questions like this, what would you say that'll be better than what he said?

do you mean obama is the cause of the protest?
游行就游行ba as long as they can keep the damage to the reasonable level. You had to let them let off some steam somehow.

he was not discussing the outcome of the trial, but the reasons why

powerful (and largely accurate) historical narrative... at the end, he
expresses hope that we're unravelling that narrative and provides

maybe you can enlighten me, what good things can come after the speech...... getting MORE people bashing him?
protest nonviolent。。。
"Won the Nobel Peace price , now going after the OSCARS"

sorry no chinese here
you know it's funny to me that people talk all of the time about how black leaders need to stand up and address the real problems in their communities.... there is constant griping and bellyaching that al sharpton and jesse jackson are simply race-baiters who stir up passions in really decisive ways...now we have here, the black man with the most influence over the african-american community since MLK, speaking on race in a way that is constructive and that encourages all americans to unify instead of being divisive, and people l........

Haha, I always like Charles Barkley, now I like him more.

Here is some comment on WSJ that I like:

Presidents usually speak to the public during prime time. Why does Obama speak to the American people at 1:30 pm .....when white people are at work? Is he not talking to us right now?

call me naive but i don't think he does that on purpose....... he needs to work on his public speech skills (like always)....... maybe a prayer for GM and his family would be better

"Zimmerman is white Hispanic , 08 is white black..." from. CNN
