Please make sure that you have nothing to eat or drink 6 hours before appointment; this includes all gum, breath mints and candy. You can drink all the water you would like. Eat low carbohydrate, low fat meals the day before you scan.
If you are diabetic and take: Long acting insulin: It should not be taken starting the night before the test, and should not be taken the day of the test. Short acting insulin: It should be taken 2 hours before appointment time. Diabetic oral medication: It can be taken morning of test as prescribed by your physician. No fentanyl lollipop (Actiq) within 6 hours of the appointment time.
If your blood sugar is running over 250, please let us know. You may need to contact your regular physician to get this under control before you can have PET/CT scan.
Do not perform any strenuous exercise 24 hours before the test, including weight lifting, jogging, walking, etc. Avoid chewing, sucking, or any movement that works your tongue and neck muscles on the day of your scan.
Avoid all tobacco/nicotine products for 4 hours before your PET scan. If you have had an exam or procedure with barium contrast within a couple of days of this study, please notify us. You may need to reschedule your PET CT scan.
If you need sedation, do not eat or drink anything after midnight. If you need sedation, bring driver and/or caregiver over the age of 18 with you. If sedation is needed, please arrive at 2nd floor Main Hospital (a.k.a Interventional Radiology) for Pre-op Check in 2 hours before the procedure.
