Though I do feel and appreciate that he is a good and likable person, his poetic works give the impression of continual compromising. To me it is like seeing 李白 becoming less than 李白, or Beethoven becoming less than Beethoven. Many Chinese people may identify this as 境界 or 圓融. I find this in some way a failure with grace.
The above is certainly just a general reflection. His poetic outputs still include works such as 《水調歌頭》(明月幾時有) that I wholeheartedly admire and am grateful that they have ever been written in China's long tradition of literature.

所以其创作有很多佛教的思想,而李白虽然算道家,好像道家的思想在其诗篇中并不太多。
虽然苏东坡在艺术方面成就斐然,但是在其他方面确实乏善可陈。他写的《东坡易传》水平很平平, 在政治上也没有什么作为 - 其实我一直觉得他被贬是一种幸运,否则就是类似宋徽宗那样,虽然艺术水平高,但是会使百姓受难。
高僧宣化上人有一本书专门评价古今的名人,也不太看好苏东坡,在入世出世方面都如此:
评曰
说食数宝 听来甚好 难以充饥 贫穷潦倒
自命不凡 皇天不保 虽有声名 成就极少
又说偈曰
通今博古一文人 言高气傲怨鬼神
八风不动口头语 二字难忍腹中瞋
当面考验闯不过 垂首返回自在门
东坡居士多风雅 活泼幽默佛印云
就不亞於李杜了。我最欣赏的是作《千里江山圖》的衹有十八歲的希孟。

啊,一口气出去了,心里舒服了一点,脸上露出空洞的笑容
同时,也無法解釋為什么喜歡蘇東坡的人也很多,說不定比喜歡李白的還多。
