She was thinking of immigrating to some country in south America first, and later head for US. Her son rejected the proposal. Luckily she took the young man's advice and eventually gave up the idea.
The truth is, she had no idea what life is like in South America and in North America. The son understands better, presumably due to the broader worldview available to the younger generation.
I know her and her family rather well since my mother and her wechat once in awhile. Her life in China is a lot better than those of many Chinese immigrants' here in US, especially for those situated in Chinatowns without speaking English.
Her son just got married. If I show you the wedding photos of this young couple, you would see no signs of rural life. The apparent differences between the developed cities and the countryside seem erased in their generation.
I am not saying that the message from this video is false or even misleading, but it is definitely not universal, and very unlikely typical.

What I intended to suggest is that in two years they would have learnt more about their destination countries. By then they would be able to reflect upon the genuineness of the visions and expectations they once held about these countries. This would have educational values for potential immigrants, illegal or not. Some might just decide not to migrate. This is good for all sides involved in this business.

so all you suggests are these people are too naive or single minded. So after a couple years in the US when they faced the harsh realities they are doom to fail or regret, right? How are you so certain that is going to happen? How are you so certain that they do not know anything of US? LOL
So I suggest you are a little out of the way to wish them fail to prove whatever your point is...
