He says that they should actually be getting faster, not slower, because of advances in technology and sports science.
He thinks that what we are seeing now is a human race as opposed to the pharmaceutical races we saw in the past.
"The physiological implications of riding 6.5W/kg are for me, as a physiologist, beyond belief. What they are doing now is physiologically plausible."
前几天刚结束的UCI世界公路车锦标赛，是继环法之后的一个很重要的赛事，许多世界著名的自行车手都提前到达澳大利亚开始备赛，一个很大的热门是Mathieu van der Poel 。
但是比赛当天，传出来新闻，Mathieu van der Poel 在比赛前夜被捕，一直到早上四点才被释放，当然也影响到了他在UCI的比赛，最后不得不中途退出。还被罚款，三年之内不得入澳大利亚境。
原因是那个晚上他的hotel隔壁住了两个女孩子，晚上非常吵闹。他没有打电话给前台，而是冲到隔壁和他们理论，然后就一发不可收拾。女孩子说他拉了他们的胳膊，导致他们受伤，他说她没有碰她们，诸如此类的two side story，估计是双方都动手了。
想想挺可惜的。
这样重大的比赛之前，有这样的吵闹，是非常frustrating的，当然他应该打电话给前台，或者要求警察，而不是自己一时冲动冲过去。
而且他这样的著名车手还有一个很大的公众效应，现在他和车队都要出来道歉，解释，搞不完的公关。他的前途估计也要受到很大影响了。

应该是那两个女孩先挑衅的，而且可能不止敲了一次门。不过，公众人物，就只能公关出面。当然我们旁观者说得轻巧。
还有他不跟团队住在一层楼，也是个失误。
