Yes, a cracked windshield can be dangerous, and you should get it repaired as soon as possible. A cracked windshield can: Impair your vision A crack can block your view during the day, especially if it's in your line of sight. At night, broken glass can create prisms that reflect headlights and streetlights, temporarily blinding you. Distract you Reflections and distortions from a cracked windshield can make you misjudge distances and make unsafe decisions. Weaken the car's structure A cracked windshield compromises the windshield's tempered glass and internal structure, which can make the car's frame weaker. This can be especially dangerous in a significant accident, where the vehicle and its occupants are more likely to be injured. Prevent airbags from deploying If the windshield is cracked or broken, the airbags may not deploy properly or at all, which could cause serious injuries or death. The size of the crack, its location, and whether it's spreading can all affect how dangerous it is to drive with a cracked windshield. For example, a small star-shaped chip might not be a problem unless it grows into a larger crack. However, even a small crack can indicate that the glass's structural integrity has been compromised. Over time, moisture, dirt, and windshield washer fluid can seep into the glass, causing discoloration and further reducing visibility. In some states, you can also face fines for driving with an obstructed view. If you don't have time to take your car to an auto glass shop, you can consider using a mobile auto glass repair service.
a hole to stop the crack. I did to my minivan. The crack was about 6.0" long. I made a hole about 3/8" ahead of the crack tip. But you can't use a drill with a regular drill bit. You have to use a high speed grinder with diamond tip. I made the hole all the way through. The hole was about 3/16" in diameter. And then I filled the hole with silicone. I think it is better to "drill" through the top layer only.
If your car have insurance, you can have it replaced for about $100.

you won't be scared. You can use a regular drill with a diamond bit. But you will need to drill very slowly preferablely with water.
Best regards,
Alex
