xx is an impressive individual. From her work as an owner of a nonprofit to her investment in competitive dance work, xx invests in herself fully in her work and in her life. She is performing very well in AP English Language this year. In our college Common Application essay assignment tied to our reading of Lamott, xx told a powerful story, and as a reader, I found myself eager to learn more with each paragraph. In her Didion eulogy assignment, XX tied waves of grief to the waves at the cove that the protagonists had experienced together in a way that was poignant and impactful. She employed an epigraph very effectively to launch the essay--it was a skilled use of a hook to draw the reader in. She chose to focus the work on Quintana, the daughter of Joan Didion and John Dunne. This was a refreshing change of pace. Her most creative work this quarter was produced in her personal eulogy: a tribute to the television series Friends. Her essay brimmed with detail that would surely warm the heart of other Friends aficionados and yet was still (theoretically) intriguing for someone who hadn’t watched the show. She captured the essence of why the show endures: “I’ll be there for you” and her closing sentence was her mic drop moment (“This is the one where it ends”). I appreciate the opportunity to work with xx this year!
AP Psychology
XX is off to a strong start in AP Psychology. Her perfect scores on her first two assessments have been very impressive and show that she has a real knack for the subject matter. Her calm demeanor and focus are appreciated, and I am looking forward to plenty of good work from her this year.
Ceramics
XX has shown remarkable insight and ability in the field of ceramics. She is a quiet force who is able to build sophisticated objects that demonstrate a disciplined technical ability. XX completely surprised me with her ability on the first project. She created a tall and clean ceramic vessel that had a refined aesthetic matched with a dynamic form without any guidance from me whatsoever. XX’s natural ability to work with her hands will only increase as her technical skills develop. I encourage her to become more vocal regarding her thoughts and processes as her projects hint at a deeper comprehension of the world around her. Her sharing would only benefit the studio positively, leading the studio in regards to building and concept.
Multivariable Calculus (H)
It has been a joy serving as XX’s teacher again, this year in Multivariable Calculus. XX’s quiet confidence and resilient spirit continues to enrich our classroom, and her superior mathematical prowess brings great focus to our experience. At the close of the first quarter, XX has earned a 100% project and homework average, a 95% test and quiz average, and an overall average of 97% for the fall semester. Accordingly, I encourage XX to keep up the good work! If xx were to ever need assistance outside of class, I remain ready to help her at any time before school, at milk-break, at lunch, after school, during student help periods, during my free A, C and D blocks, and during my free Day 4 and Day 6 flex periods. Once again, I am tickled that XX has brought her grace and aplomb to our Multivariable Calculus class this year, and I am overjoyed that all of us will profit from her brilliant mind for the balance of the school-year.
Neuroscience (H)
It’s been great having XX in class again this year and to see how much she has grown over the past three years. XX has a very natural ability to break down a lot of information into something concise and easy to understand. Through her research projects and exams, she routinely makes a difficult topic easy without needing a lengthy explanation. XX’s talent to focus on the question at hand and not distract herself by putting down everything she can think of about a topic is a skill that will serve her well no matter what field she decides to go into. Keep up the great work XX!
