Does English poetry have “平仄”?What is your answer?
To my surprise, the answer might be “Yes”.
Have you ever heard about stressed syllables or unstressed syllables?I think they might be equivalent to “平仄” of Chinese.
Here is the concept for today: Meter.
Meter is a regular pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables that defines the rhythm of some poetry. These stress patterns are defined in groupings, called feet, of two or three syllables.
Question:
Can you highlight the stressed syllables in the poem?
We Wear the Mask (感谢 最西边的岛上 推荐) BY PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR We wear the mask that grins and lies, It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,— This debt we pay to human guile; With torn and bleeding hearts we smile, And mouth with myriad subtleties.
Homework:
Write a poem using the following words: grass, stars, daisy, dance
In fields of emerald, grass licks its lips Underneath the tapestry of midnight's eclipse Each sparkler of stars whispers secrets to the night While constellations paint stories in flight Daisies spin and sway, in harmony they prance and dance Boundless in their freedom, a timeless romance
On June 17, 2018 - a beautiful Sunday afternoon We go to the field of a community garden zone Daddy watering the plants in his box Mommy walking our puppy on the grass Reeds blowing and dancing in the wind White daisies lifting their golden eyes Brother tangling flowers on my head We will have a party under the stars tonight

The above pictures of daisy 摄影:暖冬cool夏
Eg. Meter and foot:
I see grass of green, daisy bloom.
I see stars bright under sky dome.
Have you sing a song, dance a dance,
Clear away my periods of gloom.
And I think to myself.
What a wonderful world.

In fields of emerald, grass licks its lips
Underneath the tapestry of midnight's eclipse
Each sparkler of stars whispers secrets to the night
While constellations paint stories in flight
Daisies spin and sway, in harmony they prance and dance
Boundless in their freedom, a timeless romance
