I just discovered this interesting forum of WenXueCity because of the ongoing HobbyShow event. I have a hobby to share and am curious about writing an essay in English :), which reminds me of the old school days.
My hobby is making mini model houses. I made my first model using paper when I was seven years old. That was a 7-story apartment building that had a lot of balconies. I got the idea from a colored picture in my arts textbook from school. Unfortunately, my arts teacher never taught this part in the class.
Having been lost in the daily necessities for many years, I began to make model houses last year. My models were primarily made of 5mm thick foam board that is light and easy to cut. However, it still took me a while to grasp a decent cutting skill so that my knife blade stands perpendicular to the surface of the board. Once I got a hang of the basic skills and know my glues and tools better, I was able to indulge in the fun of model making completely. It is amazing how much satisfaction a scale model can bring to us. I feel like I am a "giant" when looking at a miniature house from above!
A picture is worth a thousand words.
House#1 – One-story house
This house is of approximately 1,800 sf with one bedroom, one study room and other common areas. It would be great for a couple without kids. I spent quite some time to design and make the garage door opener and it worked perfectly.
House #2 – Two-Story House
This is a 1:45 model of my own house! I plan to take the model with me as a memory after I sell this house one day.
House #3 – WIP Two-Story Doll House
This is a current project that is still in progress. I am making this doll house for a little friend. Although this will be a doll house, I spent a lot of thinking to design the floorplan as if I would love to live in it. Cannot wait to give the house to my little friend Jacquelin!
As a big fan of photography, I also make videos of the building process and share them on my YouTube channel. If you want to know more about my model making process, find them on my youtube channel (YQJ_云起居) or my wenxuecity blog.
You’re so clever. I can’t help to recall the joke I read
a few days ago, as your skills remind me of the gynaecologist in the story below. Hehe.. No offence!
A gynecologist had a burning desire to change careers and become a mechanic. So she found out from her local tech college what was involved, signed up for evening classes and attended diligently, learning all she could. When time for the practical exam approached, she prepared carefully for weeks, and completed the exam with tremendous skill.
When the results came back, she was surprised to find that she had obtained a mark of 150%. Fearing an error, she called the instructor, saying 'I don't want to appear ungrateful for such an outstanding result, but I wondered if there had been an error which needed adjusting.'
The instructor said, 'During the exam, you took the engine apart perfectly, which was worth 50% of the total mark. You put the engine back together again perfectly, which is also worth 50% of the mark. I gave you an extra 50% because you did all of it THROUGH the muffler...'

is very eye- catching!
“I feel like I am a "giant" when looking at a miniature house from above!”
Haha, a great sense of humor!
Welcome on board!
Genius exists among seemingly oridnary people.
Did you make actual rafters under the roof?
“挂首” 是挂在文学城首页的简称:)
Haha, you can't hide the feeling of a "Giant" looking over the mini home......I feel I am looking into an innocent and curious mind....
According to my dictionary, your essay is smooth and fluent.
