Thomas Sowell consistently argues that trickle-down economics has never been advocated by any economist, writing in his 2012 book "Trickle Down" Theory and "Tax Cuts for the Rich":
Let's do something completely unexpected: Let's stop and think. Why would anyone advocate that we "give" something to A in hopes that it would trickle down to B? 里根实际上提出的是供给派经济，也就是通过减税，减少法规控制以提高经济活跃度，扩大自由贸易，提高生产率，从而降低商品价格，造福大部分人。
相对的是消费派经济，提倡加税，重新分配财富，让穷人可以消费， 以消费促增长。
