I rented a car from SIXT a month ago. When I picked the car, I checked it, didn't notice anything wrong. So I drove it out of the rental garage. Right after I drove it for a short amount of time like less than hour, I noticed there is a small scratch on the front window (you can only see it from the inside). I called the company immediately and told them this. They directed me to drive it back and switched me to a new car, and told me "don't worry about this." After a month, I received emails saying I am responsible for the damage.
I already called and told them and disputed this. Is there a better way to handle this? I really didn't do anything that cause the damage.
The scratch is hard to see, it seems can only see better when it is under the sun. I didn't take a picture of it. But immediately after I found out, I called the rental company, they directed me to drive back and switch a car for me. The associate there said, "it's not your problem, don't worry".
Exactly. Hence it is hard to fight the claim from SIXT
In this case, it would become there is a damage caused by you, and your insurance shoukd cover it just as it is really caused by you. That is what insurance is for. Unless your insurance does not cover windshield damage. That is another matter.
What CC you used for the rental? Many YS cards have annual fee have CDW coverage.
We will cover You up to $50,000 toward the cost of repairs or the cash value of the car, whichever is less, if a covered accident or theft occurs when You pay for a rental car with Your Citi® Card and decline the rental company's collision loss/ damage insurance.
The insurance should cover, but I don't want to file a claim
Because it is really not my fault.
I just called my insurance company, they checked and said the rental company hasn't filed a claim through my insurance company either. It's just during the dispute stage. Since the rental company hasn't filed a claim yet, the insurance company can't handle this. And I don't want to file a claim either since it's not my fault. Does that mean if I file a claim, I already admitted I did it?
I understand principle. But w/o evidence not much you can do
IF SIXT file a claim. You do NOT file a claim until SIXT charge you the damage. I don't think SIXT would file a claim directly with your insurance company. Not even US rental companies aboard. I once had a damage with Budget at Sicily. At car return it immediately charged my CC, with a detailed damage repair invoice together with 3 pictures, sent to my email real time. I then spent half an hour at the counter to get the Rental Clising Agreement for the final details. Then once returning home I filed an eclaim with my CC which was Chase Saphire Reserve. The claim was settled within 7 days from filing to receiving approval with instruction on which payment option I wanted. There were some uncovered items such as Airport Surcharge on repair. All in all, out of 1300+ euro invoice, CC CDW paid almost 1200 euro. Our out of pocket iirc was about 130 euro.
I am confident you would have similar outcome if it wound up has to be a claim with your insurance.
At this stage you can continue to dispute with SIXT, though given its reputation, you might not succeed.

So I didn't buy insurance through the rental company.
I used my own insurance since I have full coverage. Will my insurance handle this type of issues?
at the time you took the car.

Good luck.
Fox
https://abc7news.com/hertz-rental-car-lawsuit-class-action/12535191/
