https://bbs.wenxuecity.com/sxsj/172318.html

This idiom just flashed through my mind: DEAFENING SILENCE.

People (are) talking without speaking. People (are) hearing without listening."

From The Sound of Silence. I'm humming it.

It's a night to remember.

We were born years after that frightful night.

True, but history is about remembering and forgetting.

History gives us a choice.

Would you care to let me know why you've put it up?

I couldn't wait to let you know that I liked what you said.
s
shuier
What did I say that impressed you so much?
r
renqiulan
"History gives us a choice."
s
shuier
Tell me more.
r
renqiulan
History doesn't give us Hobson's choice.
s
shuier
Hobson's choice is no choice.
r
renqiulan
That's exactly my point.
s
shuier
Go on.
r
renqiulan
History gives us a sense of freedom to choose.
s
shuier
First, we must have freedom to learn history.
r
renqiulan
First, you must have freedom to speak your mind.
s
shuier
I see. Freedom of speech comes first and foremost.
r
renqiulan
Otherwise, history will always be written by victors.
s
shuier
We'll always be losers if we can't keep our freedom.
r
renqiulan
I couldn't have said it better myself.
