There are no monetary benefits for being on the board, other than being able to make decisions. Sometimes the members will remain on board for long time until quitting, or being voted out. You can campaign to be elected as one, but for decisions, it's only one vote. It's a thankless "job" without pay, only a service to all home owners.
新年好！最近被HOA烦扰，想请教一下。我房子的mail post被小区里的铲雪车撞坏，mailbox 也比较旧了，于是我就买了新的并且雇人把mail box 和 mail post两个一起换了。买之前我知道HOA对这些有要求，就询问了一下，按规格买了mailbox。Mail post HOA指定了一家代理，他们可以做要价四百美元。我看到Amazon上不到一百可以买很好的mail post，不能接受一个杆子400美元， 于是我就在Amazon上买了类似颜色高度的mail post。
最近HOA发信找我，说我的mail post和mailbox 都不符合规定，让马上换。我给他们解释，但是他们只认那家做的mail post。 HOA不停的发信给我，我已经被他们烦扰到了。mailbox是按照产品号买的完全符合规定，他们也说不对。他们有power能强迫我去买400美元的mail post的吗？ 请问有什么建议我该怎么做好？谢谢！

我们小区有二十多年，周围邻居的信箱高高低低前倾后仰的都有，我的是新的，怎么都不能跟他们一样。
我的mailbox是按照product code在home depot 买的，他们也挑剔。周围其它相对高档的小区，对这些都没有什么要求。
另外HOA president 是位退休人员，自家外面搞的挺好，对别人的家也要求一样。他跟我隔着一家，每天遛狗都经过我的房子，估计怎么看我的信箱都是气。 这次有点不想再顺着他。四百买个信杆，他怎么想的？

Shouldn't be too late to ask for damages. Sueing is a no-go. For 400? Lawyer fees? What if you lose?

不是国内的物业。你和政府斗，是没好结果的。
我连City的政府部门的条条款款都讨厌，再加上一个HOA就更失去自由了。我买County的房子，基本上就没有任何条条框框的规矩。有次讨厌的邻居打电话报告我狗晚上叫吵得他睡不好，Sheriff来后也只能客客气气要我尽量把狗关起来不吵邻居。我说我狗关起来就不能看家了，狗狗就是放在大院子里防止狐狸来偷我的鸡的。警察说你自己看着办吧，我不能给你罚单，但邻居打电话报警我还是得上门看看的。于是就是邻居不断打电话，警察不断敲门吵我。后来我把狗狗训练了一下，很长时间不吵了。警察也不来了。但后来狗狗忘了训练的规矩，又开始吵，但估计邻居也习惯了，不再打电话，警察也没有再来。
