Weed barrier works only for a few seasons. After that the mulch on top of it would break down and enable weed to grow ABOVE the barrier. It doesn't save you anything because you'll have to do yearly remulch again. It doesn't save you much.
And the barrier would make it difficult to plant new plants. I ended up ripping them up and just spend money remulch every year.

Lay old newspaper down, and add mulch above that. The newspaper acts like a barrier but it breaks down and make subsequent years remulching easier.
比野草很少。我家直接用mulch，每年都用新的（主要为了颜色鲜艳），野草还是有，但花几分钟用手隔几周拔一下就行。
没见他们用喷杀草剂。
如果一次铺塑料布每年换mulch，是可以坚持很多年。但是不要以为铺了塑料布就可以不换mulch。
（1）换mulch以后，铺了塑料布比不铺塑料布要好许多。
（2）但是如果在换mulch的时候用旧报纸铺上，效果一样。 当然每年铺报纸也是费工，
我现在每年请人换mulch，长了野草就拿round up罐子稍微喷一下，基本上维持得不错。我们家后院有一块地比较野。去年整理的时候铺了报纸再铺mulch，否则旧的野草估计又会钻出来。
买了比较贵的mulch，过一年，颜色也会发暗。这种mulch，因为染色，估计也不环保。
