里面很多黑人来吃，也有不少下层白人，当时刚来美国，因为国内的教育，以为只有黑人是穷人，很好奇怎么有这么穷的白人，记得有一家子白人，女的大约33，4岁，个子很矮，我166的个子跟她比就是个giant，老板说，不要看人家年纪不大，人家都是外婆了，带着一堆女孩子大大小小的，有的时候有男人一起的，有的时候没有男人，她是teenager生孩子，自己的女儿大了也是teenage又生孩子，反正老板说她每个孩子能拿到几百刀，一个月2000刀没问题，来了以后一个大桌子坐满，她和她男人点两个菜吃，孩子们大部分都是来两碗白板，往上倒半瓶酱油拌饭吃了，老板说她这样的生孩子就是为了挣钱，自己啥也不用干，有吃有喝了,至于小孩么，能让他们都活着就行了。她们一到每个月的20几号就不来了，因为支票差不多用完了，那也是我小费最少的时候，客人很少，一个晚上没多少事干，小费十几块钱，等到了每个月的30号或者31号，那是人声鼎沸，整个餐馆忙的呀，我都是脚不停的忙到很晚的，老板开心啊，说，她们拿了福利支票，就都来吃饭了呀。
像她这样的靠生孩子拿福利的当地不少，只是她给我的印象比较深，至今还记得。黑人一群群的太多了，没有印象了。
后来有车了，就去另外一个远的餐馆打工了，那里就有一个女人，生孩子来卖的，她来餐馆的时候经常是大着肚子的，老板娘这个餐馆开了20多年了，认识她都十多年了，那个年代，代孕还不是什么成熟的技术，但是有的夫妻想要孩子自己又生不出，收养条件很高很难，买一个更加容易些，老板娘说10年了快，看她怀孕，卖掉一个，再怀孕，经常是来餐馆和对方谈价格的，有的时候谈不拢，再换一个谈呗，要价格好，有的时候要谈好几个。我当时听得下巴都要掉地上了。
