Spousal benefits are different than survivor benefits
Spousal benefits:
Yes, if B starts claiming the spousal benefits at her full retirement age (around Age 66 -67), she gets 50%.
If she files before her full retirement age, for example, at Age 62, she gets a lot less than 50%.
Depending on the spouse's age upon claiming, spousal benefits can range from 32.5 percent to 50 percent of the husband's primary amount.
For survivor benefits: If the husband dies, the wife can receive 100% of the benefits if she files at her full retirement age. If she files between age 60 and her full retirement age, she receives reduced benefits—usually 71.5–99%.
If you are divorced, your ex-spouse can receive benefits based on your record (even if you have remarried) if:
Your marriage lasted 10 years or longer. Your ex-spouse is unmarried. Your ex-spouse is age 62 or older.
Surviving Divorced Spouse
If you are the divorced spouse of a worker who dies, you could get benefits the same as a widow or widower, provided that your marriage lasted 10 years or more. Benefits paid to you as a surviving divorced spouse won't affect the benefit amount for other survivors getting benefits on the worker's record. If you remarry after you reach age 60 (age 50 if you have a disability), the remarriage will not affect your eligibility for survivors benefits.
