Habit cures habit.

This proverb means that the best way to break a bad habit is to replace it with a good one. This can be a powerful strategy for breaking bad habits by substituting them with healthier or more desirable ones. It's a form of behavioral modification that leverages the power of habit formation to achieve positive change. 

Understand the triggers, routine, and reward associated with the unwanted behavior. Select a positive or neutral behavior that can be substituted for the bad habit. This new habit should provide a similar, if not better, reward or fulfill the same need. Practice the new habit consistently, ideally at the same time or in similar situations where the bad habit would occur. Breaking a habit takes time and effort. Don't get discouraged by setbacks; view them as learning opportunities.  Enlist the help of friends, family, or a therapist to stay motivated and accountable. Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings while practicing the new habit. Acknowledge and reward yourself for making positive changes. 

For instance, Instead of reaching for a cigarette when stressed, you might choose to go for a short walk or do some deep breathing exercises.
