Twitter locked Trump's account for 12 hours and warned that it will be permanently blocked.
Twitter officials stated that because “many of his supporters violently attacked and destroyed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday”, Twitter has blocked the personal account of President Donald Trump for 12 hours because of “repeated and serious violations of U.S. Civic integrity policy".
The @TwitterSafety account stated that the violations stemmed from three tweets, including a video shared by Trump with supporters telling them to "go home", but also repeated the false statement that the November election was "election stolen".
Twitter Safety said: "This means that @realDonaldTrump's account will be locked for 12 hours until deleting these tweets."
"If the tweet is not deleted, the account will remain locked.
Twitter Security continued: "In the future, if tweets that violate the rules of Twitter continue to appear, including our policies on citizen integrity or threats of violence, the @realDonaldTrump account will be permanently suspended."
Trump's tweets that violate the rules have been deleted from the @realDonaldTrump account.
Earlier, the Democratic chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Frank Pallone urged Twitter and Facebook to block Trump's account.
People shouldn’t think of free speech as an inherently good
thing and that there are negative consequences for pretending that it is. Because people are not actually free in the way we suppose. We’re all conditioned by our environment, and what we want and think are really just products of social, economic, and psychological forces beyond our control.
“Rights and responsibilities help make our communities better. Rights are freedoms we have that are protected by our laws, while responsibilities are duties or things that we should do. In order to be good citizens, or members of a community, we must understand our rights and responsibilities.”
Carelessly or intentionally spreading rumors and conspiracy theories is abusing the right to free speech. It's very dangerous! Words have consequences! We, especially people in influential positions, should be responsible for what we put on social media.
Trump has been abusing his right to free speech all these years! It has shocked me again and again that he could get away with whatever he says without any consequences! It shcocked me that he was elected as the President at all for that matter!
Yesterday's display was shameful. It's a sad day. I really hope that could be a wake-up call for Americans!
By the way, not all speeches are protected by the first Amendment. Here is the link to the excpetions:
