1 you need to know what is on the other side of the ceiling. you may not be about to pass wooden barrier to pass wire from ceiling to space behind vertical wal.
2. the u tube guy cut two holes (blue mask taped) to help guide the wire from horizontal to vertical.
3. about the switch, you can replace current one by a mutiple switch using existing switch box.

家里一个壁橱很暗，我装了一个LED，外加一个motion sensor，这样一开门灯就亮。第一次做，拉线出来，接到一个变压器变到12v，然后12v出来接LED。做完了工作，但是变压器入口就是两个110v的裸线，虽然在壁橱顶部小孩摸不着，还是觉得不好，估计不满足code。后来把那个裸露的电线变成了一个插座，另外买了个可以插座的变压器，出来12v的线接到LED/motion sensor上面，就不太难看了。
其实后来想想，裸线接变压器也可以，放在一个electrical box里面就可以了。
买个无线的感应灯，很便宜，随便放那，USB 充电
