Fundamentally, Vietnam was a single but divided nation, just like north+ south Korea was.
UN in 1950 had just 60- members. The world was still largely colonized by the West. The decolonization of dozens of colonies was still at its early stage. Korea War should have been a civil war.
In the middle of 1950s, The previous master, France, had pull itself out of Vietnam, but US jumped into it. Vietnam War had little to do with UN. It was between US+its South Vietnam ally and North Vietnam. US definitely lost in that war.

中国军队入朝前：
联合国军到达了楚山（中朝边界的南部1/4处）和惠山（1/2处）两处鸭绿江边
第一次战斗发生在楚山
然后发生在楚山南边
造成了联合国军的大溃退
38线的西半边周边永远被朝鲜占据
对中国来说，长津湖战的意义在于把联合军推出朝鲜
它在中朝边界和38线之间靠中朝边界线的1/3线的中央偏南处
大致：距离海岸100公里，距离中朝边界120公里
双方实际投入军队人数比大致是4对1
双方优势：联合国军军力更强，中朝军队意志和决心更强
由于气候已经开始极其寒冷，军事上更强的联合国军才免遭了更大的损失而最终撤退
这次战役后，中朝军队在此后的4个月内在38线以南作战，但在后来的4个月里联合国军逆转
最后形成了更自然的新的边界：朝鲜在38线西半获得了更多土地（包括诸多岛），而韩国在38线东半获得了更多的土地。切割2半的是条大河。平壤更安全，汉城也是。那样
其实比之前更好。
这次战争后，基本上是：美国/西方不敢向中方推进（包括在越南那边），朝鲜不敢向
南方推进（由于美军的驻扎）。

中国：“离我远点”
西方/美国：“好吧”
没有认清这个最基本情况的人都是在扯淡
朝韩都是最大的受害者
没有外国军队介入，朝鲜肯定统一了南韩，可能美国最终也会与朝鲜和解，而不是把朝鲜逼得极端封闭
中国不可能让联合军/美军势力在中国边境，因此南韩也不可能依仗美军统一朝鲜半岛
我的韩国同学说：中国和美国都不想让朝鲜半岛统一。实际上的事实。
朝鲜统一问题就是个死结上加了死结。由于美军进驻，朝鲜觉得靠自己就必须有大规模杀伤武器：核武器。
只有在美军撤出而朝鲜不进攻韩国的情况下才有可能朝统一的方向走
统一的朝鲜半岛对区域长期经济发展更有利。
死结是朝鲜和美国共同结的。只有他们能直接解。
