This is Melbourne, Australia. We have endured the longest running lockdown in the world. Our state premier Dan Andrews has destroyed our state's economy. There are almost no cafes or restaurants left anymore. The city is like a ghost town with for lease signs in most shop fronts. Only workers deemed essential may work and the rest of us are forced to be on welfare. Welfare that costs so much that our kids kids kids won't be able to pay it back. . As of last Friday, Dan Andrews has announced that any worker that he has so graciously deemed to be essential, must now be vaccinated in order to continue to work. We have a 9pm-5am curfew. We aren't allowed to leave our house unless it's for one of 5 permitted activities. These activities include 1 hour of shopping, getting a vaccine, medical care, permitted work or 1 hour of exercise. These activities must be within 5 km of our registered address or we get arrested and fined anywhere up to $20k. . Our government officials tell us not to speak to our neighbours and to dob in our family and friends if they breach lockdown rules. . We aren't allowed to leave the state to go somewhere else and it's looking like when the borders do open, we will only be allowed to leave if we take the vaccine. Vaccine passports are currently being rolled out and we're being told that we will need one in order to participate in society in the near future. . This picture was a few months ago when we still had some hope. I hate to say it but it looks like the resistance here in Melbourne has almost given up. The police are now routinely shooting people with rubber bullets and 40mm tear gas cannisters and brutally arresting anyone that even slightly resembles a protester. The thing I find most disturbing about this whole situation is how many people are actually thanking our government for doing all of this. We're pretty much a prison city now.
