Boston police officers from Braintree, Canton and Milton were arrested Wednesday and charged in the latest overtime scheme to hit Massachusetts first responders. Federal prosecutors say the three South Shore officers, along with six others, committed over $200,000 in overtime fraud at the Boston Police Department's evidence warehouse.
Between May 2016 and February 2019, prosecutors say the nine officers collectively embezzled over $200,000 in overtime pay. O'Brien allegedly received over $25,000 for overtime hours he did not work, and Carnes and Lopez each received over $20,000 for overtime hours they did not work.
Court documents say O'Brien earned $177,500 in taxable income from the city of Boston in 2018. Carnes earned $125,453 in the same year, and Lopez earned $130,795.
