It's not funny. I recently retired from the IT field, working almost
exclusively in the Washington DC area, and I can tell you the place is
crawling with 'Asok's taking American IT jobs.

And I am not talking genius level code writers but network admins and
desktop types. They come over here on visas, but buy houses with cash (does that sound like they intend to leave after their visa expires?), and take
over neighborhoods like viruses, importing their less-than-savory cultural
mores, driving American families out. Meanwhile, IT schools are turning out American graduates looking for jobs taken by the (often rude, unhygienic)
imports.

That shite needs to end. Send 'Asok' and his bunch back to Bangalore! We
never needed them!

I worked for a web design company 6 years ago, and one of their proud
marketing tags was they were a small business that was locally owned.

But, I learned all the web development was farmed out to Poland -- which
they kept hush hush, with only small changes done in-house. The owners
embraced websites like fivrr, which taps into available talent around the
world -- vietnam, venezuela, etc -- offering their services for next to
nothing, compared to local labor prices.

Imo, these smaller companies are just tapping into globalism that larger
corporations have benefitted for decades -- even centuries before, which is to take advantage of imbalances in global labor markets.

The majority of jobs for manufacturing products have already disappeared
from the west. All that remains are service jobs, which might remain, as
they are awkward or impossible to provide from somewhere else, like a
haircut, of getting a filling in your tooth. Or getting your house roof
fixed. You cant get a chinese person to cut your hair from half way around
the world.

And if it ever becomes possible, watch every single local job disappear.

in 2001, I was managing 3 Filipino engineers .. we paid them $8 a day.. we
split up their shifts so one would work night shift over there .. day time
for us.. I'd forward the work to the other 2 that would work day shift in
Phillipines.. .. it was 1 American (me).. about $200 a day.. leveraging 3
Filipino's at $8 day .. engineers mind you..

This was the future.. until we went out of business.. and China did it. (
Chinese lived in dormatores like slaves and were paid $50 a month back in
2001) Those Filipinos we trained.. here in the States.. went to work in
China.

This is 15-20 years ago.

Called Globalization.. we also had video conferencing.. 20 years ago.

this is not anything new..

Capitalism is by far the best economic system we have in the world! The only problem with true/real capitalism is 90% of people are screwed.

So to be clear, with capitalism (the real kind not this Socialist BS
disguised) you'll have 700 million people in the world living la vita loca
and 6.3 billion just sucking air!

Capitalism will thrive when freedom is given and nurtured. The problem with freedom is that it assumes people will do reasonably good things for
themselves, but we see that poor people generally overbreed and live a very poor lifestyle. We live in a very binary world, and there is no form of
government that is going to change this. If you are upper middle class or
wealthy, be grateful and go forth and prosper. You are NOT going to turn
poor people rich - only the individual can do that.

i was one of those "few americans to fix the mistakes" for years. worked
several places removing confusion from clusterfucks and steering R&D for a
good salary....good for the 40hr/wk assumed, but really shitty at the 60-80 hr/wk actual.

i went independent 14 years ago... now billing every hour worked, and
refusing to get involved in the interior politics of my clients. what a
difference. far more money. flex schedule. a more interesting mix of work
. and the more that my clients try to do things cheap, the more fucked up
they get causing them to run to me to unfuck things. the smarter ones now
just roll me into the r&d process from the getgo and save time.

the net-net is that problems always start from bad management. ultimately
tough work needs to be done by competent people, and you have to pay for
that. managers who think they can "manage" around that truth do their
company the best possible service by firing themselves.

The toxic sense of entitlement really goes both ways, doesn't it?

Fact is the really "good people" that you can't seem to find aren't going to be your grateful little wage slaves. They're out there working for
themselves.

Fact is you really DO get what you pay for in this world, and you DON'T get what you don't pay for also. So go ahead and try to learn Urdu and have to
deal with someone running the books of your company 10 time zones away. Pray they don't hand all your sensitive data to your Chinese competitors.

Fitting that this article used Dilbert for the cartoons. Honeywell was the model for Dilbert and they tried to offshore everything they could to take
advantage of the 'cheap' slave labor in India. Of course the Indians, who
are shameless self promoters, could do everything. At least they said they could, and then proceeded to **** It Up... Anyways, Honeywell's share price is targeting $20 as a result.

I've never seen offshoring where things didn't have to be reworked in some
cases several times. This is also the reason why Boeing is in the Hurt
Locker. The author of this article is a Dumb *** and the businesses he
manages are undoubtedly a Clown Show...

The Brits have an annoying "upskill" expression much like the American "
retrain". At some point you begin to see the pattern where you're
constantly being displaced by third world **** heads because its "cheaper"
for your companies nimrods to throw you under the bus and outsource. Then
when theres nobody worth a damn to push the buttons or repair what's broken, for your now dwindling and ever angrier customers, these assholes will find a way to polish the turd they've made and sell off your now **** company to another batch of private equity assholes who then proceed to axe everyone
while giving themselves huge bonuses for the purported "efficiencies and
cost savings". Soon after it gets even shittier and whoever is left are
given the heave ho and the doors are shuttered. Upskill? To what? Another company who'll do the same? It all starts at the top. And when karma
comes around to **** management and owners in the *** I have no sympathy.

Actually, and this really is not a joke, at many companies i worked for we
saw that the incompetent were constantly promoted. That's when we likewise said, "You gotta **** up to move up". Those who actually knew what they
were doing and were good at it were too "valuable" to be moved but
ironically never given a raise. Sick and twisted.
