中国飞机年龄低的主要原因是机队最近几年扩大快。
国航退役飞机累计179架，757/767/340/772/733到736等都是彻底退出，747基本更换为748（744都20多年了）。319/320/738这些机队里还继续使用的机型一共只处理了60架
。大多数飞机卖给国内货运航空（顺丰，国航货运），国内三线小公司（奥凯长城之类的），还有第三世界（俄国，泰国),少量给GE等租赁公司，只有一架给西南航空，2架
给美国空军。
东航卖掉的比例也不高，现在552架飞机，历史上累计处理208架，去掉麦道/300/310/
767/732/733之类彻底淘汰的小众老旧机型后只有79架，其中只有10架左右737-700卖给美国西南。
南航630架现役飞机，被处理掉的现役机型也只有44架319/320，两架租约到期的332，
22架租的737/738，10架772（多数是租来飞了15-20年），一共78架。最近计划把319全部处理掉。
