Or Bahrain? Theirs is 0.36%.
In summer time, everyone went crazy, and there was almost no death. Florida almost has the whole year in summer time, so it is natural for it to have low death rate. Unfortunately the rest of the US don't have climate like Florida does.
It you take away LA, the rest of Cal actually have done very well. LA fail mainly because of its overpopulation and the fact that many poor families have three generations living in the same apartment.

An article run by LA Times on 12/15 reported that there were 935 patients in LA county's ICU, and it was not even LA's worst time. LA's worst time was on around 1/7 when the number of hospitalization was over 8000. On 12/15, the number of hospitalization was about 4600. I don't know the exact number in ICU on 1/7, but we can kind of estimate it to be 8000/4600*935=1600. This number was when we had shelter-at-home order in effect. Do you want to give a wild guess on the number of ICU-needing patients if there were no lock down? 2000? 2500? or 3000? Don't forget that we had reach ICU capacity at that time. So any extra ICU-needing patients would most likely be told to stay home. Guess how many of them would not make it. My guess will be more than half. If you really need to go to ICU but do not go, I believe you have over 50% chance of ending up dead. So my conclusion is, without lock down, LA would have hundreds more death per day during the worst months of December to February. Do you think Florida's situation applies here in LA? No matter how well you think DeSantis has done, I am glad that he is not our governor. Actually, Newsom is under huge pressure to reopen schools and business, and now he is pressing schools to reopen.
