EDA is a very challenging but also interesting area. If you are interested in algorithm, EDA is a good choice for you. Long-term career growth could be better for people with good backgrounds on algorithm and math (Chinese students and engineers are often more competitive on these.). EDA is an area that good R&D engineers are valued more than managers. EDA pay for senior engineers is not low. As Leslie mentioned, work-life balance of EDA is in general quite good.
