North NJ is not an ideal place to apply for GC. You can see that we waited for almost half a year for RTS and the long struggle after the interview ( see below) was also a nightmare.
Interview recap (IO was a middle aged white male, called Orlando-C) :
1. Our lawyer arrived 10mins late, causing us to check in late, which costed us an extra hour of waiting. Note: you don’t have to wait for the lawyer to check in. He just needs to be present during the interview.
2. Everything was initially smooth and routine.
3. IO asked for J-form, proof of employment, marriage certificate etc.
4. Then IO said that:
a. He needs to submit J form and register it in the file room because I was transferred from EB2 to EB3 and the EB2 was submitted more than 6 months ago
b. Wait for clearance for background check (weird!)
c. It may take us 6-8 weeks to receive the approval (what?!)
5. We asked whether we can be re-linked back to EB2 because EB3 visa number was running out.
6. He mumbled something like if EB3 retrogressed then EB2 would retrogress as well. Nonsense! But we didn’t challenge him.
Post-interview:
1. 8/19: EB3 visa number ran out in August, we called Tier 2 to be re-linked to EB2
2. 9/02: Called Tier 2 to check the status. Was told that the earlier request was registered but the local office had not taken any actions
3. 9/16: Fedexed a request to the local office to be change to EB2
4. 9/18: Oct bulletin came out that EB2 was retrogressed to 1/1/2015, then I called Tier 2 to remove the request to re-link to EB2. Tier 2 told me that the original request of relinking was rejected on the same day with a reply of “being within the normal processing time”
Then it became clear to us that the IO didn’t want to bother to relink to EB2 at all from the very beginning. But with the presence of the lawyer, he didn’t want to say anything out of the line. That’s why he told us the nonsense during the interview and actually expected us to receive the card in the new fiscal year.
After so much torture. It’s finally done. Wish you all good luck.
个人经历：那个转local office实际上是转去NBC了，转走之后status update先是说 transfer to another office，然后紧接着就是received at your local office，再 下面的更新就是another office has jurisdiction。真正地转local field office是 在面试前一两个星期，而这个是不会出现在状态更新里的。
