It really depends on your network and the personality of other faculty members in the department. To be honest, it could become worse if someone else assumes the position. The chair has a lot of hats to play, and what he/she does is usually not rewarded proportional to his/her work.Not an easy job.If the election doesn't affect your sustenance. don't say anything.But if what your chair does really affects the survival of your department and your job, then of course you need to do something.Build your ally first, don't say anything incisive, and try to raise points that deflect the animosity but are essential for change. Talk around, not to. For example, you can say things like the chair has done a great job, but probably other faculty members might need some administrative experiences so that your department has a deep bench. But even for that, that's still kind of direct.The best strategy would be to wait someone to start the negative talk. You follow up by first commending the chair, and then raise the pros and cons of changing the chair (e.g., rotation, deep bench, and etc.). Never say anything negative about the chair. My two cents.What I've learned by staying in the higher ed is that never say anything negative.

除非真的对政治感兴趣,否则在系里政治问题上操心就是浪费生命。生命短暂,不如把精力放在自己真正感兴趣的事情上。
公立高校有点腐败落后,可能20年以后会被淘汰或者转型。我看有些高校的老师都是在混日子。
