my suggestion is to get permission from your former PI first.
in general, you should not assume you can take away the ideas that were originated from your previous lab. it is pretty simple: you don't own the IP - the idea may come from your former PI, or lab members, or inspired by their inputs. After you leave the lab, some of these ideas may have already been pursued by other students. you don't want to put yourself in such an unpleasant situation.
That being said, if there was something that you are absolutely certain you came up exclusively by yourself, you may entitled to take it, but still, such case is rare and hard to prove. a frank discussion is still highly recommended.

Be careful here. Preliminary data usually means unpublished data. Reviewers often know or check previous publications to see overlap. Never use any data from your previous lab without permission. You current boss could use this as a weapon to fight against you later. Since you are only in the new lab for a few months, you can ask your current boss whether you can use the projects that you are doing as the preliminary data to apply your own grant later (apply as a PI not a co-PI if you can). You have to ask it as early as you can. The rights you think you have on projects might be completely different from what your boss thinks of. Look at the record of your new boss and check how many independent faculties were directly from this lab before. 文章都发了，谁都可以直接引用。难道你写东西的时候，引用别人文献的数据时候，都要去和原作者打招呼？话说回来，新PI刚开始申请，不都用以前发表的东西，要不哪里来的数据?如果没发表，另当别论。
只要你做的方向和你原来老板不一样，应该不会有问题。不过你要小心处理，别两边都得罪了。就算你出于谨慎或礼貌，你想和前老板聊，不要直接问，可以暗示。比如说，看到别人独立后，用以前实验室的发表的数据来申请自己的基金，问问他的看法。

毕竟你之前的数据 都是前老板的funding支持你拿到的
觉得你现在的老板有问题啊，如果你不听他/她的，小心给你小鞋穿
同意。

能做Co-PI对博士后也是个不错的机会，比一直博后强多了。你现老板虽然从中也有好
处，但是人家也出力了，而且还是在给你指路的。
为啥不商量啊，说不定也可以把你前老板也加上啊。不行就算了。学术领域有一条，你如果不是牛人，尽量不要得罪人。能抱大腿就抱，不行就默默耕耘自己的一亩三分地儿
