as you probably knew, the outcome is often dependent on 1) which school you apply, 2) is there a good match/or overlap? 3) the overall atmosphere of the search committee.
I've seen strong applicants (R01+K99-R00 applying for TT) shot by one committee member's comment such as 'lack of vision' or 'did not understand the related works in the field', or simply 'not serious applying for this school', it is interesting to see the dynamics in the search committee, and how that simple comment can flip the atmosphere of the discussions.
also, it is always easy to find something to criticize; candidates who can get a strong resonance from everyone is often quite rare, but it does happen.
tenure-on-entry also requires more resources and approval from senior people in the dept. knowing someone in the dept often helps a lot in these cases.

背景：工科，小学校AP第三年马上结束。PhD毕业学校一般，无大文章，funding还可以，三年拿了》10M（PI）。
学校准备给early tenure，系里的氛围也挺好的，但学校的资源有点少，这些年都是自己
一个人单打独斗，太累了。想今年下半年上market看看，不知道现在的条件申请什么档次的学
校合适。知道这版上的牛人很多，想听听大家的建议。先谢过了

你确保钱数算对的？分给其他institution pi和co-pi的钱是不能算到你名下的.
感谢大家的回复和建议，特别是@FangQ，获益良多，说实在的，虽然拿了些funding，
但对自己的定位就是个干活的，很少去琢磨您提到的这些问题，我想今后应该认真思考一下这些。
有些朋友可能还会记得，我是从工业界转到学校的，三年前申请教职的时候，在这版上问过不少问题，学习到了很多，也得到了很多帮助，非常感谢版友的帮助。我很多
proposal都是和工业界的朋友一起弄的，所以这些钱也不算特别多。

大点。另外，所有funding来自federal agency，但遗憾的是没有一个来自nsf，过去三年交了两个proposal去nsf，被批得体无完肤，今年准备试一下nsf career，希望这次
