ND is a very prestigous, internationally famous private university and may have contributed to some degree of the diversity. Granger IN would be a good place to start the house hunting. The housing price/affordability probably is one of the best in the US -- of course it is not growing like the West coast either. Online it shows Asian is about 7+% in Granger. A few elementary schools --- Northpoint Elemtary school used to be a blueribbon school. The High school is Penn High in Mishawaka IN. You can check the rating easily. To my knowledge ND offers very good programs for kids such as skating or summer camps. The biggest event there was the Football. We go to Chicago for mesumes, better Chinese restraurants etc. Although the city is small, there is a train station and an airport. Like any other cities there are always some shortcomings -- e.g., not many big employers; not many shopping places; Chinese glocery/food do exist with limited choices; some areas to avoid for safety wise. Obviously some people may find the area is less exciting as compared to some big cities and some people enjoy the big house -- it is just a personal choice. 好处是孩子们将来不用在湾区的歌喉高中上学， 压力会少很多。 据考古，那边可能上大学容易些。 另外一点是那边的大房子不贵， 应该生活质量会高一些。 坏处是去的地方亚裔很少。 高中70%的白人和5%亚裔， 初中是70%白人和10%亚裔。 我有点担心孩子们在那里会不会受歧视，有mental health的问题。

印第安那还是有些好地方的。不过south bend，在IN都算是小的地方了，还在印第安纳北疆。
其实，有娃以后生活都是围着孩子们的活动进行，就没有自己的life了。 湾区活动多，风景好，但是其实我们能enjoy的时间其实也很少。
学区学校应该挺好的。有个朋友的孩子去了MIT，她拿到不少好大学的offer。记得当地有个小小的华人超市，老板周末去芝加哥的唐人街进货。当地的宗教是橄榄球 :)
ND要是免学费优先入学的话难道不比在湾区卷UC系列强百倍？湾区不还有娃去Purdue CS？湾区天气好的确，但别的也太井底之蛙了吧。大学城活动可不少，更不要说football比赛时候的热闹了。
如果lzlg现在是Stanford、Berkley、ucsf的faculty，要不要去ND值得商榷，分专业。但是如果是cal state的faculty，无脑去圣母啊，平台不是一个数量级的
文化生活丰富多彩? 能展开说说吗？校园美，民风淳朴，生活便利便宜，居住环境好，我都认同。不过文化生活我觉得是0，在那里待的一年感觉精神生活空窗了一年，搬去别的城市（还不是东西岸大城市）终于感觉恢复正常了。
notre dame debartolo hall 每年的高级别演出很多啊，前年还有马友友。更别说ND每年的各种体育活动，college football不用说了，college baseball/basketball也挺好玩的
如果娃比较大的话，ND每年暑假的各种体育camp也很多。我认识一个德州律师的娃每年暑假雷打不动地去notre dame的lacrosse camp，她说全国各地去的都有
当然south bend的天气是真的不行哈哈
ND和UC的本科教学的师生比的确不是一个级别的。ND的本科课程，大课100人算是封顶了，多数小课30-40人，office hour基本上随便进。听Berkeley的朋友说本科engineering入门课程动不动五百人往上，把我给吓的……

真的！我们上次去圣母大学玩，就在图书馆坐了坐，就一个美国老大爷说给我们一个校园tour，他自己是这个学校的72届毕业生，现在退休就在图书馆前台周末volunteer。到处带我们走，各种天文地理，一顿聊之后，娃对圣母大学印象好的不得了。校园很美，教堂很美，不少人结婚，当天还有football，特别有气氛
南部人相对淳朴 但是 阿拉巴马 密西西比 路易斯安那 这几个州还是 能躲多远躲多远的好。
Notre Dame啥时候成南部了😂 中部铁锈带虽然没落了，比南部那些神棍还是强不少的。而且Notre Dame附近也有一小圈华人，芝加哥更是华人不少。
真正的南部，Alabama那种地方趁早躲远点。

Notre Dame自己就是一个catholic school with a capital C， TOP20 里最保守最宗教的大学啊
那和南部也没半毛钱关系。保守和邪性还是有区别的。
Catholic至少还属于正统天主教，有组织有纪律，对Bible有正统的统一解读。南方那些小教堂纯粹就是邪教敛财工具，Bible一摆，经文想怎么讲就怎么讲。
pete buttigieg之前在那里当了市长，一个选同性恋当市长的地方，应该还是挺开放的。
