“The South Korean technology giant said it expects its business to improve throughout 2024,。。”

Is the following sentence grammatically correct :"The South Korean technology giant said it expects its business to improve throughout 2024"
ChatGPT Yes, the sentence you provided is grammatically correct.

what if I change it to "The South Korean technology giant said it expected its business to improve throughout 2024"
ChatGPT The revised sentence is also grammatically correct. Changing "expects" to "expected" implies that at the time of the statement, the South Korean technology giant was expressing anticipation or foresight about business improvement throughout 2024. Both versions are grammatically sound, and the choice between them depends on the context and the timeline of events.

那就是说SAID后面打开引号就要变过去式,是不准确的。

对。
he said he is mad vs he said he was mad
ChatGPT Both "He said he is mad" and "He said he was mad" are grammatically correct, but they convey different nuances in terms of the reported speech. "He said he is mad": This suggests that the person is currently expressing that they are angry or upset at the time of the reporting. "He said he was mad": This implies that the person expressed being mad at some point in the past. It doesn't necessarily mean they are still mad at the moment of reporting; it could be a past emotion or state. The choice between "is" and "was" depends on the intended meaning and the timeline of the reported statement.

"expects"而不是"expected",是因为它表达的是现在的预期,而不是过去的预期。

我知道。 我主要是关心, SAID 后面打开引号的问题。 he said " it is ...." =/= he said it was ....

 said it expects

Question: > Is the following sentence gramatically correct? >  > The South Korean technology giant said it expects its business to improve throughout 2024 >  > In particular, should the word 'expects' be changed to 'expected' in order to match the tense of the word 'said'?
Answer: No, the sentence is grammatically correct as it is. The word 'expects' doesn't need to be in the past tense because it's referring to the company's future expectations at the time they made the statement. The verb 'said' refers to past action of the company's announcement - they said something in the past, and what they said was their expectation for the future.
