By KCRG Staff Published: Jan. 25, 2024 at 7:54 AM CST WAUKON, Iowa (KCRG) - A criminal complaint is revealing new details in the case of 37-year-old Brandon Kasemeier, who is accused of killing Jami Kasemeier at a home in Waukon before fleeing to Colorado earlier this week. Brandon Kasemeier is charged with First Degree Murder after police found the body of Jami Kasemeier on Monday. According to the criminal complaint, a relative requested a welfare check after they were unable to get a hold of Jami. The relative told police about a phone call on Sunday between Jami and her estranged husband Brandon Kasemeier that police said appeared to be a dispute, during which Brandon had taken the phone and ended the call. The family later reported that Brandon had called them using Jami’s phone and would not allow them to speak to her, and they had not heard from her since. The next day, both Brandon and Jami did not report to work as scheduled. The complaint says during the search warrant, officers had to force entry to the home and that’s where they found Jami dead inside with “extensive injuries to her face.” Investigators said they found an empty handgun case and several fired .22 caliber cartridge casings at the home. When Brandon was arrested in Loveland, Colorado on Monday, police said he was staying at a hotel and driving a vehicle that was registered to Jami and himself. Police said they found a .22 revolver under the driver’s side seat. TV9 found court documents dating back to 2015 that state Jami had gone to officers after her husband, Brandon, threatened her and other family members. He attempted to call her roughly 90 times while a no-contact order was in place between them. Charges were reduced after Brandon pleaded guilty to 3rd-degree harassment. He was not sentenced to jail time. Jami also contacted police three years later, asking for help removing Brandon from her home. Court documents show Jami told police she had been held down and choked by Brandon. Her statement to police said during that altercation in 2018, Brandon told her that if law enforcement got involved, she would be leaving in a body bag. That domestic abuse charge was dismissed.
