嗯嗯,那些餐馆二代确实占优势。父母其实并不少挣钱,很多现金,但是报税嘛。。。
我总结了一下这个文章。 首先是you got to standout - 因为disadvantage是在相同成绩下而言的。 成绩好有更好的chance legacy 50% - 无法改变 athlete recruit 30%, 尤其是niche sports,横笛短笛长笛这些。 利用你付得起priavte lessons,创造competitive edge more likely to enroll12% (1)binding的ED是最好的机会,不要reach too high;(2)既然高过了$220K, 最好是高到$300K,让学校知道你不会shop around for scholarship and reduce yield 20% 学校对这个income bracket的学生的兴趣度。 文章举例了HPYSM这些学校对于学生是否能学费自理没有什么太大的兴趣。 但是NYU,Williams, WASHU这些学校兴趣就比较大。
我们高中的这样一家,今年早早的通过QB录了大藤,一直不说。等那个大藤早申放榜的那一天才说,想把自己QB的结果混在早申榜单里。但那孩子的情况大家都知道,走正常渠道,不可能被那个大藤录取。于是孩子们和大人很快挖出了真相。
那家长是不是等孩子申请大学前都辞了高薪然后去餐馆打工呢?无语😓

要看assumption是什么,这里是标考成绩一定。
如果什么assumption都不看,概率是随家庭收入增加的。 top 0.1% 30倍概率, top 1% 15倍概率, 30万估计算top 2%-4%,都还是有四倍概率
那三十万最难的assumption是什么?

个人理解这样收入家庭,就是要孩子要更outstanding才行。

人家吃香的喝辣的,舒服着呢。其实,如果真符合QB的条件,那孩子录了大藤,大家都会为他家高兴的。不理解的是他家的操作,给人感觉在藏什么似的。

说实话就是在这个收入区间外向上也不会有大的录取率的区别。真的觉得家庭收入70,100万的会高多少?高的微乎其微吧。
熟食,我觉得能爬疼的去了州大出路不比爬藤的差
申请的时候并不需要申报收入,提交税表。申请奖/助学金的时候才需要
再往上的人数少,分母小了,数字好看了

不是拿奖学金的问题,说的是录取进入一个dead zone,很困难的问题。
能看到藤校包括mit仍然录取了15% 家庭收入在5%-10% 这个区间的孩子。 但看不到这些孩子是否是女性, 来自中西部和南方州,有legacy, athletic recruite, 使用了ED表忠心等等。
如果你是一个加州,亚裔,男性,来自于这样的家庭,以藤校标准来说stats on par,odds会直接降到零。
有圣母会说都是中国孩子支持就行了。对不起老娘我读书少,就是个没文化的泼妇,这些钻空子的已经钻的够爽了,我TM就是要骂这些人“不-要-脸”!祝他们收入早日达到QB标准。

看来你不了解,这些根本不是奖学金,是needs based,只要录取了,人人平等,只跟家庭收入和资产有关,跟成绩无关。 而且录取时候,不问申请者的家庭经济情况。这些评估都是录取之后的事。

90%是25万。同样分数92-93%录取率最低,估计是28-30万的样子
是range low end吗?好奇是哪家大藤这个收入range能免5万学费。我知道有人是这个range high end,录了藤校,一分钱都没有减免。
