他拿Money order 给你，可能是别人给他的，比如付给他的货款或者服务费，他不想存银行想和你换，也可能是自己用现金买的，便于携带，其实是洗钱。小批量的换对于你爸来说不是个大事，但是不能连续不断的换。你爸如果一段时间内不停地往账户存入多张money order，银行会冻结他的账户，要求提供资金来源证明，提供不出来，钱就一直扣着。 所以，这个人会经常找周围认识甚至不熟的人换，你爸爸可能只是他几十个人或者几百个人之一而已。
That's definitely misinformation. I have canceled a money order when it was lost and paid $15 to get it re-issued. Postal office has cancelled a money order I purchased when they mistakenly entered cash instead of debit card so no money was taken out of my debit card. No original money order is required.

I am sure if you ask your banker they will tell you how to cancel. I personally do not have experience with money orders bought from a bank. I would think they fall under the same rules as Postal/WesternUnion/MoneyGram money orders. meaning the bank only took the money out of your bank account and move them into money order vender''''s escrow account. you can cancel the orginal one by submitting receipt from the bank and have the money order re-issued. If you deposit that re-issued money order back into your bank then you esentially have successfully cancelled the first money order (with money refunded back to your bank, minus the fees，of course) In US. money orders are checks for poor people who can''t afford bank accounts or those simply don''t trust banks. Money orders can be cancelled similar to checks but the whole process will take more time and are generally more expensive.

你就把他当现金看待。支票碰到骗子会被退票。MONEY ORDER是邮局或者银行出具的，就是大额现金。

MONEY ORDER不能CANCEL的吧？要CANCEL需要带MONEY ORDER原件去取消。背书给别人的是无法取消的。美国很多申请费都是要MONEY ORDER就是因为他一旦背书转让就无法取消。跟CHECK不一样，可以取消，还有余额不足等问题。
money order 也可以造假的，只不过极少。网上不认识的骗子，理论上可以伪造Money order邮寄给你。
适合于卖二手车，买主和你去一趟邮局，counter那里现场买Money order。这种方式给卖主，不可能假的，也不会有跳票的风险。
很简单，最麻烦的做法有利处嘛。
举个例子，对方可以 用信用卡 买 $5000 的礼卡，拿到 $200 信用卡回扣，然后花$10 把礼卡换成 money order. 得利就是 $190. 但是自己银行帐号没法大量存money orders 因为有洗钱嫌疑，跟你爸换就把洗钱嫌疑转移给你爸了。所以我不建议你爸经常和这种不熟的人打交道换钱存money orders。你可以去查查AML 里的structuring是啥意思。

你错了，买money order时有张收据，上面有取消的手续说明。我取消过因为money order掉了, 重新要一张费用是$15.

小心为妙，尤其你不知根底的人。有的人现金来路不明，这样洗钱。尤其还要换，到时候把你扯进去你有口难辨。我们这里有人在微信里这样换钱，额外3-5%的费用。后来被抓是非法毒品生意。
他不应该是骗子，可是如果想找人换现金干嘛不直接给我现金呢？$5000很快就花出去了，我家landscapr和handyman都要现金，我正好需要的。
用过2W的，银行直接开的。 没问题。
大概率是cashier check而不是money order.

money order只是把钱划给了第三者for escrow, 有money order号和金额还有收据就可以取消。就我所知，WesternUnion/MoneyGram/US Postal都是可以直接取消的。比如下面的WU，一个电话可以hold the payment, 然后寄收据过去取消：
