Oh it''s so easy, you just need to be willing and able to pay your way in. Plenty of mediocre kids at top private boarding schools.

不过you're who you are!

ChatGPT answer: Both options can lead to a smart kid shining, but in different ways. In a less competitive school, the child might stand out more easily, be a big fish in a small pond, and have the chance to take on leadership roles or pursue unique interests. On the other hand, a top school might provide a more challenging environment, pushing the child to excel even further and offering advanced opportunities and resources. It boils down to the individual kid's personality, goals, and preferences. Some thrive in a less pressured, more supportive environment, while others may blossom when faced with the challenges and competition of a top school. What do you think would align better with the kid's strengths and aspirations?

That mom has the right strategy, my friend''s sibling is the admissions officer at one of the top ivies and we''ve discussed this. Whether a student stands out among their peers is very important, if the student can be in the top 25% of the GT school, they are fine. If they are in the bottom 50%, the same kid will have better chances being in the top 10% of a regular high school.
If you look at the college matriculation results of the best boarding schools, you actually find a large majority end up in really bad schools so going to a top high school doesn''t guarantee admission. You have to be ranked high, whether it''s at a top or average high school. The upside of going to a top ranked high school is much better resources and foundation, which could help you later on in life. The downside is you could also get so burned out by the time you get to college you don''t want to study anymore. I know several people who studied way too hard during high school and got into H/Y and then didn''t care anymore and had terrible grades and couldn''t find a job after graduating.
It really depends on how you think your kid will do in each environment, as the parent you should know the best.
