However, it is less known that approximately 20% of lung cancer is diagnosed in non-smokers. In particular, Asian female nonsmokers appear to have higher incidences of lung cancer based on large studies done in Asia. Early detection of lung cancer at early stages through lung cancer screening provides the best chance of cure. The New York Female Asian Nonsmoker Screening Study (FANSS) is a research study being conducted at NYU Perlmutter Cancer Center to perform lung cancer screening for Asian female nonsmokers ages 40-74 years old. The NY FANSS study provides up to three free annual low-dose CT scans of the chest. In addition, there is a blood-based assay with the capability for early detection of cancer being done for research purposes. The study is free to enroll in and is of no cost to interested participants.
