Any recommendation for VPN and calling/data plan in China?

Any recommendation for reliable VPN and wireless calling/data plan while traveling in China for a short period? e.g. 1-2 months

Google fi, the $75/month plan. Activate it at least a day or two before you travel. I read that it is better not to use it over 2 months overseas.

Accessed google, gmail, and other websites without any issues with decent speed when I was in China earlier this year.
