Maybe you can say that Hitler made an existential bet-the-country move at enormous scale to attack Soviet union. and Japanese made the same courageous decision to attack pearl harbor. RSU vest时候的income tax是另算的，会withhold 之后再按照卖出价格减去vest时候的价格算capital gain。 跌了以后好多都capital loss了
如果withhold设的足够多，首先vest的时候50%交税，grant了100万，税后相当于grant了五十万。然后vest的时候跌了2/3的话，相当于，vest的时候只有十几万了。
如果withhold设的少，那还有可能变成赔钱（vest的时候钱会更多，但是报税的时候欠了IRS一大笔钱，卖股票的钱可能还不够交税）
这种其实最可怕。因为去年利息低房价高，而且贷款时一般湾区都会把股票算进来。很多人撑着买个大房子，说需要靠卖股票还贷付地税的。股票一跌，如果不补的话，可能就会断供，或者至少非常影响生活质量。
没卖怎么算吃到嘴的肉呢？

我写的是已上市公司rsu的算法。2001年的时候最有名的破产例子发的是options，算法好像更复杂。ipo的公司发的rsu也有风险，因为上市时候一下子vest一大笔税率很高，上市之后又有较长的禁售期
