出租房壁炉漏气

原来的自住房因为搬家打理给一个出租公司往外出租。gas壁炉我住了8年从来没有用过，买房的时候是好用的。我已经忘记了怎么打开壁炉。租客大夏天住进去一直试图打开，也问了我怎么打开，我也不知道。
今天包租公司告诉我 “There is a gas leak behind the fireplace according to the gas company. I contacted someone who can repair the leak but initially with charge $500 or so for the detection. Once this is done, then we will get an estimate on the repair cost. ”
不知道怎么回应好。这也太贵了，会不会有坑。而且我住了8年 Gas费用一直都正常，夏天不开暖气 的话 gas 账单就是一个基本的维护费，所以我住的时候肯定不漏气的。怎么租客一捣鼓壁炉就漏了。咋办？

我们家根本没任何费用，gas炉子就是个摆设，不过我自住。都是用电取暖，gas太贵。

只能修，住的是租客，漏气还是大事。
