去年我有几个朋友去了IRS做agent，全部都是四大manager level，30-40k pay cut

你要了解一下average IRS agent 和average police officer的学历区别。 IRS是revenue center, police 是cost center. Police是靠irs养的。

IRS根本不管Police的钱，IRS Agent和Police根本就不是同一个Tax source. 一个是联邦政府的Agent，钱是由联邦税里出，Police是local的tax里出，来源是property tax, sales tax etc.

可以理解为学校保安吗，和全能型的刑警FBI水准要求有区别

所以local警察的待遇全仗着local居民愿意掏多少钱，待遇可高可低，有时高有时低，不像 Federal Agent 有比较稳定的资金来源。自然人员素质上也就有差距。
不过我也知道有些富裕的小town，警察工资超高，比联邦agent的工资高50%，警察非常nice，特别愿意帮助人。
