这个LIST和holistic review并不矛盾,有时候特别是竞争激烈的大公校高中,不少学生在其他方面都差不多,说起GPA都很高,说起EC,ESSAY,推荐信都没啥区别,标准考试大家都接近满分,这时候往往可以从所获奖项上区别一下
Putnam fellow也是搞笑的吧。

那个层主的意思是,在gpa, ap, sat, ranking,学校活动等差别很小的时候,好大学会在校外大奖上区分报名者。这个是显然的呀。

这太简单粗暴了,总之奖项不是唯一的区分要素,夏校也不是,越好的大学越重视你的匹配度,申请的奖项只是佐证你对某个学术的热情,申请表上几行字。
你要挖掘更深层次的东西,
如同相亲一样,你说你家有车有房,有豪宅,人家妹子也不见得看得上你,别人符合她心目中的如意郎君的形象,没车也一样看上了,好好琢磨怎么让人家看上你,外在只是一方面,内在怎么样才是关键

首先你得的奖要跟你申请的专业有关。得了好几个写作大奖,你去申请MIT,Caltech, 或者斯坦福计算机,名校不收很自然,但并不说明你的几个写作大奖没有用。每年名校申请的人乌央乌央的,特别是今年取消了SAT要求后,打枣的更是多了几倍。这么多的申请者,其实招生官没有时间细细浏览你很多东西,没人有时间去琢磨你,表面的这些获奖的东西其实就是关键。

申请人多,不代表人家不好好看你的申请,顶级大学会有层层筛选,到最后几层,一定是严格阅读你的材料,谨慎做出录不录取的决定的,没有你想的那么随机
这个例子最能说明问题,不是看大奖拿了多少,而是看匹配你的形象是否鲜明又很匹配
没说奖项是唯一区分要素,只是指在其他方面很难区分的情况下,那么奖项区分要素的权重就比较大比较显眼。
再比方说如果有个学生ESSAY写的特别好,那么ESSAY的权重一下又大起来,很可能脱颖而出(在其他方面都不差的情况下)。
奖项来区分只有一个情况,就是这两个申请者其他几乎一摸一样,包括essay, 推荐信,申请的专业方向,但是这种情况几乎不存在,不要过于关注在奖项上胜过别人,就算你胜过了,也不代表学校就一定选你不选他
如果你别的条件跟一个同校有大奖的学生一样,你要想让招生官挑你不挑他,除非你essay写得非常好,而那个得大奖的写得很差。有时候事实就是这么残酷,你就是在跟你的同届同校同学竞争一个位置。
得大奖的挑完了,总要录取一些没得大奖的。你说的这些并不能否认大奖的重要性。
我没有否认大奖重要,大奖的人数其实不多,没有多少借鉴意义,
我只是想说不要只看大奖,不是得了大奖就万无一失了,结果不重要,重要的是过程,除非你是全球前几名,那不用讨论了
现在一模一样的公立高中小中男女太多了,成了普遍现象。所以大家都挖掘自己的特色。得奖是一个相对比较容易实现的特色,而且往往也与EC,PASSION等等方面交相辉映,进而写ESSAY也更饱满
只能说没有大奖的也有上藤的希望,大奖不是必要条件。但大奖能大大增加藤校录取的机会,这是确定的。
essay人家才不要写奖项
ESSAY当然不能写奖项,那是大忌。 我是说高中生在追求奖项的时候(往往也是他的主打EC),他付出的很多,经历的很多,挣扎的很多,能体现自己的PASSION,为写好ESSAY做好的铺垫和准备

亚裔盲目追求所谓奖项,不重"人为本"只会越走越艰难
现在这情况,如果没有奖,把课外活动做好也是一条路。尽量多做些有影响的课外活动。
亚裔只追求学校分数,才会路越走越艰难。
不见得,学校分数是亚裔最不花力气的地方,追求奖项是亚裔大力内卷的领域
总结下来:亚裔有奖但没得到藤校青睐就怪歧视,别人没奖也得录取就是运气好,谁规定藤校只看奖项的呢
