上大学只是人生中的一步,以后还有很长的路要走。一个孩子如果自己没有机会寻找自己的路,完全由别人安排人生。。。这样的孩子即便勉强上了好点的学校以后也是堪忧。我自己俩孩子初中开始就让她们自己做主,我只负责掏钱,做她们的后勤。俩孩子都没得上面列出的任何大奖。也没上过任何补习班,更没请什么升学顾问。都是凭她们自己喜欢的方向发展。她们做的都出乎我的意外! 俩孩子自己写申请essay, 我说要不要看看些范文,坚决不看。 就这样,俩孩子都上了自己最喜欢的top 10 学校。

关键是LG很反对升学指导甚至我为小孩制定计划项目,理由和前面反对升学指导的一样,不想为孩子规划一切,希望自然而然的让孩子成长,大学后反正也管不住,最好现在就开始,他还总说再怎么也能CSU吧,实在不行community college再转UC,还有这么多不需要大学文凭的好工作(护士,imaging tech之类)。但是我的想法就是和大家一样,觉得有时候和她交流有困难,她不愿意听,升学指导的话也许她会听,毕竟他们接触的孩子多,也许请不请最后结果都一样,但是不请觉得心虚。

你老公是对的,进到很好大学的孩子其实是很自推的一群,请不请顾问都可以进,不能自推的请一般的没有区别,花大钱请,勉强进也不好混,得不偿失。

你家孩子很棒。一定是聪明又自推的孩子。
不过请个升学顾问,还远不至于“完全由别人安排人生”。相信有很多人不觉得自己能够完全正确指导孩子,又怕耽误孩子,请个顾问,买个安心。也许不请,结果也差不多。

亲眼所见的实例。两个男娃,一个是标准的well rounded, organic娃,没有死角也没有spike,家长没找顾问。另一个各方面差不少,家长一直请各种tutor,顾问手把手写essay。两个娃录的学校差不少。当然你也可以说大学不是终点,以后的人生路如何如何。事实上对大部分的普通娃找人雕琢一下肯定是有帮助的。

看得我忽然想当升学顾问。这钱太好赚了吧?我同意牛蛙肯定牛,有没有顾问都能爬藤。我朋友的牛娃被斯坦福和藤都录了。没钱请顾问。她的essay仅仅是English teacher 帮忙critique的。华语顾问不可能有美国的英文老师的英文厉害吧?

适合孩子的就是好学校。普通孩子升学顾问包装进了竞争激烈的好学校,结果大学四年学的很挣扎毕业,你说对孩子是好事还是坏事? 我觉得还不如凭自己实力进一个相应的大学,快快乐乐大学生涯。

有很多英语是母语的人做升学顾问的,不仅仅是讲中文的人。而且,升学顾问和editor并不一定是同一个人。
当然可以找英文老师或者英文好的亲朋好友帮忙,但也有很多人因为这样那样的原因没有这样的资源。
每个家庭的情况不一样,有的人不介意花这笔钱,有的人觉得不值。看自己的需要和情况而定。

问题是在美国申请大学,学习成绩并不是唯一的指标。而且说实话,除了那些hard core的学校和专业,其他的学校与专业,大部分的华人孩子都可以念下来的。
至少我们请顾问并不是为了提高成绩,我家孩子的成绩已经是同年级的top 1%。她今年的录取结果不错,但他们学校有录取Yale, Princeton,Harvard的,学习成绩都不如她。我不觉得她上这几所学校会很挣扎。就像我说的,如果不介意花请顾问的钱,也不会引起家里的矛盾,而且也有靠谱的顾问,那就花。
其实归根结底就是这笔钱值不值得的问题。在顾问靠谱的前提下,其他的理由都不成立。这就像去藤校还是去旗舰公立的问题,有的父母认为不值得多付那么多钱去藤校,有的父母认为值得。就是这么回事

马上9年级的女生,自己还不知道自己喜欢什么,也没有什么academic或者文体强项,自己满足于每科得A。我们家长也不知道目标在哪里。大概想的就是UC系列。她自己对CS, ROBOTIC都不感兴趣,说几个朋友都说想学医,那她自己也可以学医方面把。我就想如果她真想学医,那就不用请升学顾问了,反正都是需要大学成绩的,我们也管不到大学了。但是她自己也不决定不知道。我说那就请个升学顾问吧,看看她这个情况到底能干嘛或者指导一下,但是LG对升学顾问非常反感,觉得升学顾问没用,尤其是不爬藤。我说我父母出钱为孙女请,他还是反对。所以,请问,请过的觉得升学顾问有用吗

不知道自己想干啥的最应该去私立大学。因为入学专业不定;即使二年级定了专业之后,想换也很容易,只要能把专业规定的课都修完,啥时候换专业都行。

中国人升学顾问通常本人不改essay的,他们都会另外雇英文好的帮客户改essay.

我家老大没请升学顾问,上了个UC,顺顺当当。在大学里欢欢喜喜,功课没啥压力。反正他从小到大我觉的他都是轻松的。实习也轻松找到有了工作了。 反倒老二,是个自推娃也不肯跟父母多交流,什么都自己扛。快到申请大学季了,问她要不要升学顾问,她说找个改essay的吧。周边问了一圈,死贵死贵。Essay我们也帮不上,打算给找个改essay的。有没有推荐靠谱改essay的? 本来指望老大给老二把把门,可惜老二也不跟老大交流,无解了。花点钱改essay吧。 私心也希望老二上UC,省钱。

上大学只是人生中的一步,以后还有很长的路要走。一个孩子如果自己没有机会寻找自己的路,完全由别人安排人生。。。这样的孩子即便勉强上了好点的学校以后也是堪忧。我自己俩孩子初中开始就让她们自己做主,我只负责掏钱,做她们的后勤。俩孩子都没得上面列出的任何大奖。也没上过任何补习班,更没请什么升学顾问。都是凭她们自己喜欢的方向发展。她们做的都出乎我的意外! 俩孩子自己写申请essay, 我说要不要看看些范文,坚决不看。 就这样,俩孩子都上了自己最喜欢的top 10 学校。

看情况,刚刚看了pbs的纪录片“try harder”。 里面一个孩子去了理想的大学全奖全凭他妈请了个顾问。另一个孩子,妈妈台湾人对小孩学习很重视,但不熟美国大学申请的套路,本来孩子爸没有高中文凭可以大大spin一下,娃不好意思提她也不管结果差点悲剧。美国大学申请很操蛋的,尤其对亚裔,如果不是绝对优秀,包装是个技术活,深谙此道的肯定有帮助。

问题是在美国申请大学,学习成绩并不是唯一的指标。而且说实话,除了那些hard core的学校和专业,其他的学校与专业,大部分的华人孩子都可以念下来的。
至少我们请顾问并不是为了提高成绩,我家孩子的成绩已经是同年级的top 1%。她今年的录取结果不错,但他们学校有录取Yale, Princeton,Harvard的,学习成绩都不如她。我不觉得她上这几所学校会很挣扎。就像我说的,如果不介意花请顾问的钱,也不会引起家里的矛盾,而且也有靠谱的顾问,那就花。
其实归根结底就是这笔钱值不值得的问题。在顾问靠谱的前提下,其他的理由都不成立。这就像去藤校还是去旗舰公立的问题,有的父母认为不值得多付那么多钱去藤校,有的父母认为值得。就是这么回事

不是这样,我对他们挺满意的。那几个上大藤的都有别人没有的优势,而我们去了自己想去的学校,也是藤校。与排名相比,是否适合对我们更重要。
我说那些只是想证明,学习成绩并不是申请大学的唯一,或者说最重要的指标。孩子优秀,不需要任何帮助就上了顶尖的学校,当然很好,还省钱。但另一方面,在升学顾问的帮助下上了很好的大学,也不会存在挣扎毕业,甚至以后堪忧的情况。

人傻钱多的会请,把孩子的自主能动性消耗殆尽。真正的人生离家后才开始,尽量早地放手让孩子掌握自己的人生才是真的对孩子好,很多华人一代想不明白。大学里工作后出类拔萃的无一不是特别独立有主见的人

赞👍。有想法有主见有行动力,聪明反而没那么重要。教书这么多年,看得很清楚。成功几大要素:不笨,目的性强,有精力不怕累,脸皮厚 。

上大学只是人生中的一步,以后还有很长的路要走。一个孩子如果自己没有机会寻找自己的路,完全由别人安排人生。。。这样的孩子即便勉强上了好点的学校以后也是堪忧。我自己俩孩子初中开始就让她们自己做主,我只负责掏钱,做她们的后勤。俩孩子都没得上面列出的任何大奖。也没上过任何补习班,更没请什么升学顾问。都是凭她们自己喜欢的方向发展。她们做的都出乎我的意外! 俩孩子自己写申请essay, 我说要不要看看些范文,坚决不看。 就这样,俩孩子都上了自己最喜欢的top 10 学校。

据我看到的,国内来上中学的好像请顾问的比较多,本地出生的孩子或很小过来的孩子请顾问的不多。最后录取藤校的都是本来就是牛孩子,跟请不请顾问关系不是很大。最后如想请顾问的话也要征询一下孩子的意见为好。

你看看孩子的同学和周围的同龄人 如果大多数都请了升学顾问 大体上你们也会请 不然别人有各种包装 最后上了一个比较好的学校 自己孩子上的学校普通 到时候孩子和家长都会跺脚。 这种peer pressure 在升学的时候 会格外的明显吧。如果不在乎大学排名 就是想读个大学 读个喜欢的专业 根本不需要找这些顾问!
