刚刚完成去年的税表,IRS needs to refund me $1400 because i didn't have any income last year. But this year at the beginning of the year I just sold my long term capital gains. Do I still need to pay estimated tax before April 18th for the first quarter? thanks.

取决于你的gain有多少。如果没有任何其他税交了的话,保险一点你需要交你longterm gain 的15%作为this quarter estimate tax,年底再退回来如果有的话。

Question If I anticipate a sizable capital gain on the sale of an investment during the year, do I need to make a quarterly estimated tax payment during the tax year? Answer Generally, you must make estimated tax payments for the current tax year if both of the following apply: You expect to owe at least $1,000 in tax for the current tax year after subtracting your withholding and refundable credits, and You expect your withholding and refundable credits to be less than the smaller of: 90% of the tax to be shown on your current year's tax return, or 100% of the tax shown on your prior year’s tax return. (Your prior year’s tax return must cover all 12 months.)

从上面的答案看,今年不需要estimated tax, 因为去年没交税。再confirm一下。
